ive never heard of Raising Cains and there is one store here in colorado. the next time im in Ft Collins ill have to check it out.

http://www.raisingcanes.com/our-menu

this is interesting, if you use their site to look for a store, you will see that each store has a unique nick name. like chicken shack, murphys law, the detour, King of the court.

Weird. Nearest to me is one in MA and then 3 in VA and then the next 13 closest ones are all in OH.

I almost ate at a KFC a couple weeks ago. I was intrigued by their boneless chicken. (I ate the bones!) But when I got there they were like NO boneless chicken for you! Next!
You would think a chain that is all about chicken would at least have boneless chicken as an option.

I think that they still have it. It's just called an Original Filet now. They put them in their chicken sammiches.

I bet those boneless chickens KFC uses are really weird looking when they are alive.
I'm picturing a large feathery blob.

there's about 6 of those that aren't in the southeast.

i wouldn't go that far but i think it'd need a good sized presence in at least 3 or 4 regions. jack in the box is a national chain, for example.

I dunno. South Carolina has a few stragglers as if there was a failed attempt to go national long ago, but the vast majority who have never left the East coast have never heard of JitB. When I went to San Diego (their home town) I only knew of them because of the national media coverage their e-coli scandal got back in '92/'93 or so. These days we blame the beef supplier.

El Pollo Loco is similarly unheard of out here thanks to no advertisements and different ownership but at least there are several locations around.

ZINFAMOUS WHERE DID YOU GO

WE'RE NOT DONE, BRO.

I bet you're eating some drumsticks from KFC doused in mayo, heathen.

oh lol. forgot about this after work yesterday. I knew you would bring up asian fried chicken. fuck that noise--it's like eating rocks!

(granted--I really like the Taiwanese street/popcorn style. One of my colleagues, his wife makes some amazing damn popcorn chicken. it really is the best you can find in this area....but that is because this area also sucks for things like BBQ and fried chicken, so you can't compete with the Azns. )

problem with that, though, most of it is boneless. Means you never can be sure what meat you are eating, unless you make it yourself.

Actually--I was eating the last of the fried chicken that I prepared over the weekend with brine/sous vide.

another thing--I hate leftover fried chicken. People like it cold, and while it is better that way that warmed up, I just don't like cold fried chicken. especially if it inferior dark meat.

^^ No way, chicken karaage is amazeballs; little lemon squeezed over it then dipped in some of that delicious Japanese mayo. So freaking good.

Used to like Roy Rogers chicken. That was a long time ago and not sure if they even still exist.

Their recipe was bought by Hardee's many years ago, and precipitated the "Great FF Fried Chicken Wars" b/w KFC and Hardee's for a few years. It was definitely better than what KFC had, but Hardee's eventually got bought out, so I am not sure if they, or if Carl's Jr, still offer it.

No, it isn't subjective. Dark tastes better. And I'm not talking about chicken.
that's something a communist would say.

well, you and your white text...

Did not know that. We don't have Hardee's around here. It was better than KFC.

They rolled it out in some places about 25 years ago and got rid of it in the mid '90s. They were practically a chicken place with burgers and not a burger place with chicken for at least a few years.

I remember getting it in Newnan, GA but being unable to get it in Daytona, FL. Driving back from Florida, my mother stopped at almost every exit with "Hardee's" listed until we finally got our chicken. The first one had no idea what we were talking about ("Chicken? At Hardee's?!"). Soon we were finding them with progressively sooner "coming soon" dates. Finally we found some offering "new" fried chicken (it wasn't "new" anymore back home). We were on a mission that day. B)

KFC since I love their buffet. The only way their buffet could be improved is if the buffet also included Taco Bell menu.

...buffet?

Yeah, some kfc joints have a lunch buffet. In college, when I had a little extra money, I'd go have kfc buffet and gorge myself which usually was enough for a day and a half.

WE have zero chain restaurants where I live. ANY fast food chain in the entire world you can think of to name...its NOT HERE.

With that said, there are only local mom and pop type restaurants on much smaller scale.

With that said, I miss KFC

In Florida, many love Publix Fried Chicken.

I've heard tales of Publix fried chicken. As others have said, various grocery store fried chicken is pretty good. Some better than others, I have found.

Pizza Hut or Pizza Inn? I remember Pizza Inn doing the buffet. Do they still exist?

You're in heaven and don't even realize it.

The only way I'd miss KFC would be if I moved to a North Korean prison camp.

It's almost like that in Berkeley, as well--stifling ordinance that discourages nearly any kind of chain business. You will find one McDonald's in downtown Berkeley, and the only other one near the western border. Other than a Subway (now two), a Starbucks (only 1 in town!), and a relatively new Chipotle, there aren't any chains that I can think of in downtown Berkeley.

out on San Pablo--that western border area, you will find Popeyes, a JitB, 2nd Chipotle, and a Churches near McD's #2. Once you cross the border into Albany/El Cerrito, they start popping up. You know, I don't think there is a KFC? :hmm:

Technically, not even a Target in Berkeley, though there is one on each of north/south border.
