I managed to get 1 lb of McDonald's beef for 8.07.

Mobile app
Use promo for buy 1 get one free quarter pounder.

Pay extra to add an extra patty onto both burgers. (1.29 each for extra patties)

Of course I delete the bun and ketchup because of avoiding the starches.
hm.. never thought of paying for an extra patty.

in my example, 2 double cheeseburgers for $3 comes out to .75 each patty.
Have to check next time how much each additional patty is

Ah man! I went to get 4 large cod and chips and bits and pieces a little while ago and I think that it was about £50! This was takeaway and I don't live in a particularly expensive area. It was good but I could get a good pub meal for that price plus drinks.
TBF it's a lot cheaper if you get pies or battered sausage or anything other than cod really but still. £50! I sounded like my dad!

We ate at my favorite F&C place on The Continent and its 19% more than it was 2 years ago. 48 euro for two meals and 2 beers.

So you get a stack of dry burger pucks, some fake cheese and pickles?

That sounds... unpleasant no matter the cost.

I don't like McD's that much, but let's just say my fellow Americans have even lower standards and just "buy it all" when they go to McDonald's.

I prefer ground elk myself, but sometimes if I can't cook, some heated up restaurant beef will suffice.

Pickles never fail to please me.

But surely you can get pickles and ground beef cheaper than buying it at McDonald's?
And honestly if you're buying from McDonalds you may as well get everything on it, it's the way to make it palatable. Just don't do it everyday.

I'm paying the premium for not feeling like cooking and cleaning of the burgers.

At 2 double cheeseburgers (4 patties) for $3, That's 4 x 1.6oz = 6.4 oz or .4 lbs of beef.

I feel 1/4lb of beef plus 4 slices of cheese for $3 is only a small premium for not cooking/cleaning.

edit:
That's precooked weight just like the quarter pounder.
And if it's like the quarter pounder, then cooked weight is 3oz.
yup, 1/4 of the weight of quarter pounder patty is water. And they add water so a precook (frozen) patty is 4oz!

That is a depressing meal though!

The burgers will either be cold or dry or cold and dry. The cheese will have melted then coagulated so it'll be even more weird than normal.

Seriously either get a burger and eat it the way it's supposed to be eaten or learn to cook. You can make amazing things with ground beef!

Fast food never warms up the same. I wouldn't even attempt this, just buy patties from the grocery store and grill them.

wha?
who said anything about eating the burger cold/dry?
or even reheating them?

I'm eating it when i get home, which is like a 5min drive from McD.
still warm

I hadn't eaten McDonald's for about 2-3 years. I am in...time limited circumstances.

What? Just chowing down on plain burger pucks?!

The whole "no bread" thing is weirding me out. Ordering a sandwich without bread seems normal to everyone else?

It’s by far the healthiest way to eat a burger. The bread is carbs and sugar.

I just went to The Habit, and got a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger and a hotdog for about $14 with tax. I feel this is a fair price, especially considering I took some free sliced jalapenos that they offer with condiments. So my point is, I guess there are deals to be found still, and it really depends on the place/restaurant, and also location as to if you get decent pricing or not.

A burger isn't health food however you eat it. If you want something healthy go elsewhere rather than getting a sandwich and leaving all the bits off that make it a sandwich!
I mean the healthiest way would be to order a big Mac and hold the bread, cheese, all sauces and meat then just get a tub filled with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles! But that's a crazy way to order a salad!

1 lb 85% grass fed beef. 2 quarter lb burgers for me, taco salad for wifee.
7 bucks plus greens. 15 min cook times including cleanup. That's fast enough.

McDonalds cheese is the worst. That stuff is just gross. In the rarity that I eat there, I always hold the cheese. The only thing that it's acceptable on is a McMuffin since it's melted.

This is correct. I haven't had a McD's burger in like 20 years but every so often get a sausage McMuffin with egg craving.

Just about all the "fast food" places have effectively shut themselves out of the market with absurd pricing.

Got 2x large meal-combos (2x double-burgers) at the Wendys drive-through the other night because GF was craving it?

$29.72 inc tax !! I was hoping for a little sexy-time so to make her happy I bit the bullet but good god!

For that price I could have had a large Pepe's pizza or a quality Chinese FEAST!

What the actual fvck!!! .... I will literally NEVER eat Wendy's again at that $ !!!
Pretty much where I've ended up. Hadn't had Popeye's in a while, put an order together, said "fuck that" at the end price, now if we're having the itch for fried chicken I opt for an 8 piece from the local Kroger-owned grocery store's deli for $10. It's not as good, but it's good enough. In 2021, I got a 4 piece dinner for $11, January of 2023 it was $11 for a 2 piece.

Yup, sometimes the prices are just different, it can be all over the place. Also, I believe Mcdonalds are franchised, so each store is individually owned and has some amount of discretion on the menu items and their prices. For instance, I just checked a local Mcdonalds that is by our Costco, on the app: Big Mac is $6.39, but I believe the employees make at least $20 an our. So prices don't necessarily scale with wage.

Some places are just more expensive, but there are deals to be found if you find a good spot. But honestly, if you are looking for good quick takeout, maybe look into a taqueria or taco food truck, especially the more authentic ones. At least around here, a lot of these are really good.

I think it's a combination of things. Companies are greedy so if minimum wage is higher then they raise prices so they can make the same, or more profit than before. Sometimes they raise the prices anyway, because they just want more profit. People blame government for inflation, and they are definitely a contributor due to some often bad monetary policies (the budget will balance itself!), but corporate greed also is a contributor. The first companies to blame would be utility companies, insurance, municipalities (property taxes) and basically any company that business/people pay bills to every month. Because if price of those things goes up, then it basically snowballs into making everything else go up. Gas/diesel is a big one too, that affects everything.

$20 minimum wage seems absurd though. While a big corporation like McDonald's can easily afford that, a small business, not so much. So they have no choice but to let people go and possibly reduce their hours of operation due to not being able to afford the staff to run it. I think what needs to be tackled dead on is inflation itself. Raising wages is just a temporary bandaid solution if the costs of living/operating and price of everything are only going to keep going up anyway.
