Fastest AMD proc a 150W power supply handle...?

I was wondering how fast of an amd processor a 150w ps can handle. I ask because I want to build a small portable gaming system in a microatx case that I can take to friends' houses. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Maybe a 600MHz Duron? and some sort of power miserly vid card. You can usually fit a larger power supply into a microATX case. You just have to watch the clearance between the CD rom/power supply.

Well, I have tried a duron 750 with a 150w ps and it worked perfectly. I am wondering if it can support up to 1ghz or more?

I think you gonna run into stability issue @ 1Ghz and up with 150watt PSU. Even if you don't overclock, more likely you will run into instability when playing games, run CD-ROM, HD, and you might even experience frequent registry corrupts which is very possible. Could cause all kinds of problem because of insufficient wattage of PSU. You would need at least double or triple the amount of power than 150watt

hello Lauzy,

don't be LAZY and try it - if you have that microatx case with 150W PSU handy, nothing can stop you from putting MB+CPU & stuff in it (or besides it and stretch cables from PSU). My guess is that you'll have far better result than suggested, 'cause I'm running 1.5GHz/1.9V Athlon on (crappy) 250W Taiwanese PSU without problems for 4-5 months.

Not that I am lazy, but there is a case I am interested in, but I don't want to get it if I can't run the stuff I want in it. thanks for the suggestion though.

yeah, I've been interested in this questino too. I'm thinking of grabbing a 200W psu, and since a 145 from the same company (Aopen) supports up to 950 Duron (according to AMD) I'm just sitting here wondering what the extra 55W will grab me. I guess I can try... but I don't have the money to really grab that 200W, and few chips to try them out.
any suggestions?
