bitcomet here... used to use azureus until i realized that 200mb of RAM usage is not acceptable by a bittorrent client... bitcomet rarely goes over 60, and downloads much faster with fewer resource usage, from my experience.

Azureus is a resource whore, but it still is the best overall client out there when it comes to options anyway.

I tried uTorrent for a while, & i love how it's so light & runs smoothly w/o using much RAM, but it just didn't quite have the nice layout/options Azureus has.

It's an excellent alternative for those less picky though.

Am I the only one still using the good old Bittorrent? It's quite fast. The only problem with it is that it doesn't allow you to download a specific file when there's more than one in a .torrent. And with about 16Mb of memory it's not something that will slow down your computer while gaming...

Hek..why do peoples allways find the need to go for more and more complex thing when they dont need it...

Sure it does, because some clients don't even get all of the seeds/leechers.

I tried using that new one that everyone on here was raving about..but it didn't connect to everyone..and my download speeds sufferered.

I use bitcomet, I used to use Azureus, but I switched to bitcomet because it uses less resources.

Top 3 clients are BitComet, Azureus, and BitTornado IMO.

Im not exactly 'new' to the whole BitTorrent world, I have been able to get many files through it...problem is, it takes me SEVERAL WEEKS!

Typically downloading at a speed AT or LESS THAN 1kb/s, I used to just use the plain ol' bittorrent you get off the official site...each running its own little window, you know the one.

You should know I am at school...this year they capped everyone's bandwidth to 1.5mbps (last year I was consistently testing 8MbPS!!!) and we are running Cisco Clean Access Agent...


Tried out uTorrent today, my first real stab at a nice client...it's very very simple, so right up my alley! Looked at Azereus the other day and was overwhelmed.
I understand the BT concept basics, but more advanced configs have been lost on me...

Am I just doing something wrong to have this take so long?
Im not running any software firewalls besides WinXP SP2 Firewall... and obviously dont have access to ports as Im on the campus network.

Ideas?

Should I change uTorrent's "port for incoming connections" to port 80, so I get my regular HTTP bandwidth (if perhaps they are capping bandwidth on other ports)?

fastest one and most featured would Auzerus but its a memory hoochie sucker = 60MB to 100MB > people don't like this atall.

It will teach how to open more than 10 outgoing connections which can dramatically improve your download speed. Windows xp is set a 10 so ;( follow that guide.

ABC would be my 2nd choice

Bitcoment would be my 3rd choice. but i not a fan of this client but loads of people use it because its got search/links/menu and browser and other stuff

Upload and download inhibit each other. They share
your connection and bandwidth.

If you upload at your maximum upstream of say 32k/s
you will download very slowly. If you upload at maybe
24k/s, you should be able to download at a nice rate.
(maybe 80k/s if you have 320k downstream max)

Now that my upstream is 40k/s, I limit upload to 30k.
Limiting by half your upstream is probably naive, so
I go for about 75% (and could probably go more),
but it all depends on the specifics of your connection.

If your ISP gave you 32k down and 32k up, then you
would want to limit at 16k, but I think the majority of us
are closer to 32k/320k or similarly unbalanced numbers.

It is not a limit of 10 outgoing connections. It is a 10 un-established connection queue. The only time this queue would become full is if your machine was infected with a worm or something where it would try to connect to tons of random non-existent hosts. If you apply this "tweak" all you are doing is increasing the damage a worm can do if it is on your machine. It will not effect legitimate traffic at all.

I love my Bitcomet (necessary for fansubs), especially with DHT enabled . . . it can use a good amount of RAM though, up to 80,000 KB from my experience (if you run it for hours on end) though I don't get much of a decrease in performance in games. And CPU usage for it is usually 0-3% for me . . .

I used Azereus but got no where as good results as BC, Bitlord is good also and pretty much as good as BC though no DHT . . .
