Fastest Browser for Windows XP

I have an internet machine using Windows XP and wish to know what the fastest browser is for Windows XP? Obviously MSIE 9 is a no goer and almost every other browser will be faster than MSIE 8.

It can depend on your PC, what sites you usually visit and what plugins and add-ons you have installed. I use Opera myself.

The PC has a 3.1Ghz Quad Core Athlon II with Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 video card. The websites I visit are not Graphically intensive (ie HTML 5.0) because I mostly do research so speed is the most important thing. Don't want to be waiting for the page to be displayed lol

Good idea, so far Chrome 9 is faster than Firefox4 but I prefer the Firefox4 interface. I think Firefox4 FC will be released sometime next month and Chrome 10 is looking fast too so I will decide when Chrome 10 and Firefox4 FC is available and not beta.

Chrome and opera is fast from cold start time. But Firefox is more better and hardly ever crashes. But opera is fast overall since you want a fast browser. i would strongly recommend Firefox 4.

The overall speed of your browsing experience is more dependent on Internet conditions and your ISP than what browser you use. So, your own experience with all is the most vailid for your location,

Try for yourself, they are all free.

Personally, I think Chrome is the fastest especially on WinXP. But FF has a lot of good plugins so you really need to try all of them and see whats good for you.

problem is the half-open connection problem that doesn't exist in *nix(osx too), and has been tweaked (win7) - so folks have to detune the browsers to not hit the old half-open connection limit(or max connections compared to osx).

It all comes down to a matter of personal choice,.. what might suit me may not suit someone else and so on. I use "Opera" and it isn't lacking any speed but misses out on the ability to have add ons which is probably Firefoxes' trump card. Opera is still my favourite browser regardless.
