The EVO's and STI's of a few years ago didn't have the snort that the '04+'s have. Any they go for well over 20k. I keep going back to Mustangs and <shiver> camaros.
1) They're cheap
2) They're fast
3) They're cheap to fix. Blowing up a Mitsu Lancer Evo won't make the wife happy.

I honestly dread being seen in a camaro....but they're faster AND cheaper than Mustangs. So please god someone mention some other cars.

For cheap and fast in a straight line, awd isn't the route to go. Also, EVOs and STIs only came to the US in 04 unless you were thinking about importing an older one.

you could get a 240 HP volvo turbo in that price range. european will be a good place to look in general because of their awful resale values and tendancies towards quicker cars.

Mustang and f-body are the two best for that kind of money if you want to stay newish. If you go older you can get some imports that can keep up but they aren't going to be as relaible as the domestic yeah thats right.

There just isn't a lot of interesting cars out there for that kind of money. You either have to go old and unreliable, mustang/camaro and I already have a mustang , slow, fwd, or ugly and its usually a combo. I've tried and tried to get myself to like WRXs which are at the upper end of your price range and I just can't do it. They aren't that fast stock and they look like monkey butt. I've driven a 99 6-speed trans am and while its fast it feels like a boat and surprise the interior is horrible. I'm driving an 89 mustang and 89 caravan so bad interiors aren't that big of a deal but those didn't cost me $10k either . If I hadn't already done the mustang thing I'd go for a 99+ which can be found easy in your price range and are nice to drive cars, I've driven an 02 GT alot. Rightnow I am leaning towards getting a 94+ miata for $4k-$8k, cheaper the better, and supercharging it. The Honda s2000, nissan 350z, and chevy c5 vette are the only other things that interest me but finding any of those for under $14k is pretty damn hard.

You can't find a decent Miata that cheap... I haven't found any below 4k and those were junk. I have been looking for one to drop a 5.0 into with a KenneBell Blower....


That being said get a Fox Body mustang, and some mods, and have change to spare! Youll have a fast car that sounds badass too!

yeah miatas are worth their weight in crack around here too. Most 94s are $6k+ and uaually ++ which is insane. You can find 99s for the same price people are asking for 94-97s. I'm hoping with winter prices will drop and the nice $4k kind pop up more often.

Yea I have been looking for one with a blown motor and shredded top. Since the one I am building as a company car is only going to be a fair weather vehicle I dont need the top, just the roll bars. Should be a fun little ride!

Only ones I can find even with 200k miles are freaking 5K.... Sigh.... Maybe one day Ill get to build on it, till then my 4000 lb 500hp mustang will have to do..... I just think 500+rwhp in a 2300lb car would be alot more fun
