Howdy all

I currently run a PIII 450 @100 mghz bus speed in my P2B-F

I would like to upgrade to a PIII 800 or higher if at all possible

Has anyone ever done so? would it be possible to run my memory @133 (it's pc133) w/out overclocking everything? I assume the PCI bus would stay within spec, but the AGP slot would be o/c'd @133.

Just wondrin, any replies would be cool.

thanks!

p.s. i'll probably break down and get a Tbird this summer, but the reason i don't want one now is because i haven't seen too many stable mobo's yet...at least, my A7V experiences have been less than enjoyable..even with the newest bios...but that's not what this post is about.

i had a cII566 at 933 no problems at all.you'll have to flash your bios for coppermine support though.i believe it was 1003 version but not for sure just ck it out at thier web site.

bios version 1013@ asus.com however this is for cumine 128 support(celeron2), if your memory is pc-133 it will run @ 133mhz but check your cas rating and adjust it accordingly in your bios .what video card are you running in your agp slot?

If that is the case Frosty all u need to know is that is an 8.5x multiplier...
which means you could use a C2 566
you could easily put say a PIII 700E at 933 in there, that's only a 7x multiplier
or even a regular retail stock 933 would be 7x multiplier.
7.5x133 u could get a PIII 1000EB

*IF* that is the right spec

First of all, the P2B-F is a 440bx chipset, therefore it will only support 100fsb and pc100. I heard you can use PC133 but it will only run that PC100. As far as how high your board will support, you can check this link: Here. How long ago did you get this board? If you got it over a year ago, it is likely that it won't support the coppermine processors. Your safest bet would be 600 non coppermine 100fsb.

There's 10x 100FSB P3's out there. GamePC.com had them in stock a month ago, if I remember correctly. They were priced higher than 1000EB's, mainly because they are much harder to find.

Thanks for all the replies, but i've decided I just can't justify plunking down 200 bucks or whatever for a decent new pIII only to have it still run at 100 fsb. especially when, for about 150 bucks more, i can get a gig athlon with a new mobo runnin at 133 fsb...

This is all good to know though, because my P2b-f will still get heavy use in another system after my next upgrade, and maybe by then PIII 800's will be cheaper!

Sell your Asus and PIII450Mhz!

Then go out and get a KT133 or 133A mobo and the cheapest Duron you can get your hands on and overclock it presumably to somewhere around 800-1000mhz

You'll still have change left on the price of the Intel CPU alone

Thats what I'm doing (hopefully) with my BX6 2.0 and PIII 450 @ 600Mhz

Get a p3-850, set the fsb to 133. YOu then have a p3-1130 w/133fsb and 133 Ram.

You can quite possibly run at 133FSB but some of your other bits and pieces may not like the increased frequencies.

I am assuming you can only use a 1/3 divider like my old BH6? The newer BX6 had a 1/4 divider option for PCI etc.

The whole system will be out of tolerance but it may still be rock stable - my BH6 was..
