Thin privilege is my slender drama teacher being completely unfazed by the blatant fat-shaming and fat-hatred present in the play she’s chosen for us this year, and refusing to cut the scenes, which aren’t necessary to the rest of the play, despite the fact that many members of the class have objected to the obvious dehumanization of fat people that occurs in the play. Basically, the scenes feature two thin characters and a fat character, with the fat character displaying all the negative stereotypes associated with being fat, and the two thin characters being verbally abusive to this character and attempting to tell him that his body type is wrong. As a fat person, I am completely disgusted by this.

What's "in style" is largely determined by what most people want to be in style. It's easier make yourself think fat is sexy than it is to not be fat. What do you think all those fat women with the "Large and in charge" type t-shirts are doing? It's easier to twist things around in your mind than it is to change reality. Companies realize that you make more money by catering to that weakness in people.

i dont want to seem i only like skinny girls... most skinny girls are crack whores anyway. i dont mind a curvy woman, they can be deadly sexy... its just when you get that loose fat that you can tell is there from junk food... you can tell they dont stay active, and probably sweat way too much during sex. that is gross.

well i disagree with that partially, because in our history it hasnt always been that way. back in the day, a fat girl meant she would be good for bearing large kids that could do more work for the family.

and, even today, there are areas in africa where fat is a status symbol. a fat girl means she has had the wealth to eat a lot of food, so guys only go after the fat girls.

that said, i think 90% of the time throughout human history, healthy is sexy so i do agree with you mostly.

Unfit and over weight is not something we should be promoting considering most are already over weight.

People lack the motivation to eat better and workout so they try and convince themselves it's fine.

Me and my siblings give our mom crap all the time. She's one of those people who will clean other people's plate. She's not obese, but she's definitely not thin and doesn't need to be eating everything left on the table.

the time scale you're referencing is irrelevant actually... completely so.
the hard-wired programming that was mentioned occurs on evolutionary time scales... hundreds of thousands of years to millions of years. Examples from contemporary history for a preference for fat people is just coincedental cultural bias, and has nothing to do with our 'wiring.'

if you want to know what we are wired for there is only one place you need to look... hunter gatherer culture that no longer exists on earth. before the fatties created by modern agriculture and sedentary lifestyle, humans were on the move All The Time. eating low callrie diets with the occasional hunted meat... lots of fruit, nuts, seeds... walking, walking, walking, running, running.

so ask yourself what the healthy look was from our the shrew-like ancestors in the Jurassic ------ to -----> neanderthal ---- to ------> hunter gatherer humans of 15,000 years ago... what did healthy look like to all those animal ancestors whose DNA we have inhereted...

I guarantee you that NEVER in all that time did "Healthy" look like the hagen-daaz stuffed plus-sized sedentary models of today.

when calories in > calories out... you get fatter
