The whole food industry downplayed that they knew us subsidizing the hell out of food production was going to just make people fat. That's why the British (and I believe the FDA in the US) government was considering going after them like what happened to the tobacco industry. We've known for quite some time that the food industry has been making bullshit claims (there's been a bunch over stuff like soft drinks, where Coca Cola representing VitaminWater claimed that there's no way consumers would think VitaminWater is a health drink) and covering up stuff like abundance of cheap food making people fat. They knew about it decades ago and still claimed otherwise.
Like DAPUNISHER said, this is a smoking gun showing this, but government agencies have known about this for some time. It'll be interesting if it will trigger actual action.
Basically we subsidized ourselves into a major health crisis, so now we're going to have to subsidize our health back.
And hopefully the fucking idiots that have been bitching about stuff like "soda tax" will see the reason they do things like that because it is effectively their only real recourse over this shit.
