Does anyone else cut away the fat from their steaks or other meat? Or do you guys love to eat the fat off of your plate.

To me, nothing ruins a good steak than having too much fat on it. A good cook should really cut the fat off before serving it.

I'll leave a little fat around the edges but if needed I trim it down. I really like the crispy bits you get especially on things like lamb chops

That's what I do.

Crispy fatty edges = ftw
Huge hunks of fat surrounding the meat = ftl

I always leave my steaks with the fat on the edges. Especially a good ribeye...

You could just cut it away when you eat the steak, which is what I do. But it's better for the steak when you cook it...Usually the fat around the steak is what cooks or burns so when you trim it away before eating, you have nothing but juicy pink medium rare goodness waiting for you.

For steak, I always leave the fat in and divide it so that every bit gets a little chunk of it. Too lean and it's not tasty.

I eat my own fat, along with my wifes fat. If anyone at tables nearby has fat, I eat that too. BTW I'm a fat fuck.

Absolutely hate the fat. I rarely order or buy anything that has a lot of fat in the meat. My husband loves it and says that is where all the flavor comes from, but anyone who knows how to cook can add a lot of flavor to the meat without relying on the fat.
We'll see which one of us lives longer and which one will die young of a heart attack.

hate fat.

i honestly hate most steak because of it. i like a good new york strip or a similar lean cut, but most other steaks (even supposed 'good' steaks) end up being dissected with half the damn thing thrown in the trash, because i won't eat anything with a significant portion of fat on it.

depends on how much their is.

generally speaking, I'll always cook with the fat on and only trim it off afterward if there's a ton of it (like duck)

Well depends on how the fat tastes really, sometimes it's good sometimes its gross, when eating I tend to cut most of it off though.
Bad thing is I think I'm losing my taste for steaks.

I always like to eat the fat trimmings on the side of a good juicy steak with a 1:1 fat:meat ratio. It's like adding marbling... well not quite, but kinda...

I cook it very well done so all the visible fat is usually gone. I always use ketchup. Heinz.
