JUST because it has that jackasses name on it. I buy a board based on proven performance, not because it has some pale 90lb nerd on it

Just cause he is doing well for himself doesn't make him a jack@ss. Did he do something wrong to you that would make you resent him? If so then by all means let him have it, but if it were just due to the fact that he happens to have made a name for himself because he is quite good at video games I don't think that deserves such criticism. It's like calling someone who wins the lottery a jack@ss just cause it was not you who won the money. If this had been you, with your name on the motherboard, I think it takes on a whole different persepective.

heh he made a living out playing video games, you cant be any more switched on upstairs than that. i wish id get paid to jus sit a chair an whoop some dudes ass in a game

But, enough of the Fatal1ty bashing. I just want to know if any of you respond to Fatal1ty the same you respond to Air Jordans.

Do you honestly think that? I'll be there, to LOL at you arse, after it gets handed back to you completely.
Did you ignore my qualifier?

Hey, I may not like George Foreman, but his grills ain't bad either
People buy it because it's one of a kind. Bad analogy.

The Abit board is just another great motherboard with Fatal1ty's logo on it. I'd spend money on a Foreman grill because I don't have a choice. On the other hand, I won't spend $200 on a non-SLI board with some gamer's name on it as if he designed it or had any technical input.

If I was some rich pro-gamer I'd have a specialzed VR helmet with 16 layers of translucent LCDs powered by 8 dual opterons with 2 6800U's each.

Actually it is not. There are several other similar grills being marketed. All trying to get in on the action since the 1 with George's name on it has sold 10's of millions.

You mean the "if you quit your job..." part?
No, I wasn't ignoring that at all. I was suggesting that practice and training is only part of the equation, and suggesting that was all that was required (thus implying the necessity of talent in the equation being zero - and the correllary that "pro video gaming" was a farce), was likely incorrect. Now, forgive me, I honestly don't know if you have talent in that sort of area or not. Perhaps that was implicit in the fact that you made that initial statement, and I overlooked that. If so, I apologize, but it did seem like a bit of armchair-quarterbacking. I used to think that those DDR-style games looked easy too, especially for a seasoned video-game player, but I soon found out otherwise first-hand.

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything over abilities, only trying to strongly suggest based on my personal gaming experience, that it can truely be just as much of a "real" competitive sport as anything else, requiring both dedication and training, and also bringing out the natural talent and ability that some individuals have. I think that's why sports are are popular as they are.

Whether it ever gets to the level of something like the NBA, well, that remains to be seen. I'm not sure if millions of households across America would want to watch a sweaty geek at a mouse and keyboard for an hour. (Although it's more likely that they would primarily show the screen rather than the player.) I think that they may already have stuff like that in Korea, they're kind of "crazy" over there, for online competitive gaming. I do know that "G4TV", a cable gaming network channel, does have some gaming-competition broadcasts already.

I second that.

BTW It seems that this kid should be like an EAGames spokesperson or something, not a hardware enthusiast.

Why doesnt someone get those few guys who continuously break world record overclocks to help engineer better boards? I would probably buy a board designed by a world record holding overclocker, rather than a kid who knows nothing about electrical engineering etc.. only video games

I figured, so do I. I have nothing against the guy and the motherboard I saw was pretty sweet, but I'm wondering if his brand is factored into the cost of the board and who would actually pay that much for a board with his name on it.

Most of the people don't want it for his name, but for the probmies Abit makes about the board. The Intel version is the strongest overclocking board ever made for a P4 and the AMD board is like a very stable Neo2 Platinum with stock BIOS. You can also get a "special" BIOS that unlocks all the multipliers & voltages and that will make the mobo completely off the chain for people looking for massive OC's. This BIOS also voids the warranty for that mobo too though.

It is also a very nice looking & well put together board and the layout is favorable to most AMD boards in comparison so there is alot of benefits to it. Is it worth $200? That depends on who is looking at it I guess.

They ask him what he would want on a board... and what he doesn't want. Simple as that. There's too many fscking experts on this forum.

I would buy this if it was better than other mobo's out at this point.

Fat is a friend of mine as he used to come to our lans for practice in our house in mpls on the U of M campus.

I would be happy if I got like 2 frags a game off him

Seems like a pretty good board actually

Overclocking - 337FSB

Stock performance isnt anythign special however. I think ramflow is a waste too. Personally, I think regular Abit AN8 should be just as good, unless you like the red PCB, lights and exclusivity.

"The sound quality this mainboard provides is noticeably better than the sound quality on the majority of nForce4 based mainboards out there due to the use of a professional sound codec and its location on a separate riser card." - xbitlabs

Why does Michael Jordan sell (or used to sell) Hanes underwear and big macs. He doesn't cook or produce them. If this dude makes 1 billion dollars or ten cents I say power on. Hell, if I were winning video game tournaments and had a major endorsement deal with a motherboard manufacturer I would be giggling all the way to the bank. I couldn't care less what anyone thought. Buy or don't buy, power to capital enterprise.

PS I would beat you all in a one-handed clapping contest with my mad finger dexterity and natural born talent inherited from my five time world finger snapping champion pop and nine time Vulcan live long and prosper finger forming momma. I think I will try and be a spokesman for the new supercharged FAtality Clapper. Four times the power, with special Japanese capacitors that cool the internall clap cpu for mad overclapping speeds. ... The walls, they are breathing, speak to me, speak to me speak to ...
