Fatal1ty...Who Actually Buys Crap With This Geeks Logo On It?

I'm seeing a lot of stuff with the "Fatal1ty" brand on it. I wonder who actually buys this stuff. For those of you who don't know, Fatal1ty is some uber geek gamer who wins PC game tournaments. Somehow that makes him cool. So he has these endorsements with his monkier on it and people buy it. What market is that aimed at? Do any of you actually follow game tourneys with any seriousness enough that you would buy a $200 motherboard with Fatal1ty's logo on it? I sure don't.

I would buy the motherboard if it was otherwise worth it, but that's it. (Haven't really done any research on any lately though)

I think hes asking if you would buy a motherboard
JUST because it has that jackasses name on it. I buy a board based on proven performance, not because it has some pale 90lb nerd on it

I'm sure he's making enough money from game tournaments and endorsements and his motherboards, that he doesn't give two sh!ts if you buy it or not. Jealousy doesn't go a long way, either...

I figured, so do I. I have nothing against the guy and the motherboard I saw was pretty sweet, but I'm wondering if his brand is factored into the cost of the board and who would actually pay that much for a board with his name on it.

Why do you make such an illogical leap by assuming that I'm "jealous". I just want to know if the Fatal1ty brand is big with gamers and enthusiasts alot. Can I make the illogical leap and assume that you're a Fatal1ty fans with posters and computer equipment with his logo on it?

Hey, you can make the assumption. No one is saying you're right, though. It seemed moreso that you were jealous than I am a fanboy. Actually, no, I'm not. Guess you might not even be jealous. Point is, I respect him. He has come a long way considering he plays video games.
Other than that, nah, don't think people will buy his motherboard just because it's him. Maybe if it was a CS god...

Just cause he is doing well for himself doesn't make him a jack@ss. Did he do something wrong to you that would make you resent him? If so then by all means let him have it, but if it were just due to the fact that he happens to have made a name for himself because he is quite good at video games I don't think that deserves such criticism. It's like calling someone who wins the lottery a jack@ss just cause it was not you who won the money. If this had been you, with your name on the motherboard, I think it takes on a whole different persepective.

Uhm, noobs/wannabe "gamers" that still talk online in l33t-sp34k? Hence the product name and packaging?

I don't really know if I agree with the product tie-in with his name, but I can't fault the guy for being talented at what he does, winning game competitions. I used to be an amature competitive video-game player, back in my earlier years (got my name in a magazine for it too, and won a bunch of gear), and I have to say that I think that it's pretty darn cool that such a thing has become "mainstream" enough for their to actually be gaming leagues and "professional" sponsorships and the like. I dig it. I know some friends (slightly younger than I am, they've still got their reflexes), and they've travelled around the country playing in tournaments and winning competitions. Although when it comes down to actual competitions, I seem to have somewhat lost my edge, I take solace that in non-competition gameplay, I'm still quite competitive with them. Ah, my misspent days of youth, at the video-arcade.

people who buy it are uber geek overclockers who want the best board they can get. i think most of the current fastest intel overclocks are done on the 925XE fatal1ty. there was something in a gen hardware post a week ago about a 7.6 GHZ post on one of these boards.

That would indeed be rather cool. Cyber-olympics 2048, here we come!
At least as an exhibition sport

haha exactly what I was thinking. when I first heard about a guy competing in doom 3 for fame an d money, I thought "wtfghey" but now i've come more to my senses and am just like "whatever makes him happy and makes him money." sounds like a lot of people are jealous of him though... but I personally would HATE to do that for a living. I love playing tons of PC games as a hobby, but for a career it just seems too weird (i know, i'm a big hypocrite).

That would be right around when I start creating the greatest cyber viruses ever.....Dont even use the word "athletes" with ppl sitting in front of a computer playing games....

Most of my friends or ppl I know that are HEAVY gamers are far from models of peak health...Heck most of them dont even touch their wives, which rules out almost all physical activity...Other then the occasional trip to buy more software or to get a cola from the fridge....

I am biased though. I think HEAVY gamers (moderate to light gaming has entertaining value) are mostly lame...My 2 cents....

Why do people think the OP is jealous? He's questioning the people that buy based on his endorsement. Heck, I feel the same way about people who buy based on almost any paid endorsement.

" Fatal1ty is some uber geek gamer who wins PC game tournaments. Somehow that makes him cool."
then the next reply:
" Nope, GAYtality = teh lame"

sounds like needless insults to me.

That is main thing I drew from the question...I dont place negative connotations on the word "geek" like some. Howvere back onto the main question why would somone buy HARDWARE with a a guy name on it who plays with SOFTWARE??? I mean he may tweak his systems of visual and fps, but that isn't going to win tournaments for him....

I agree I would no more buy a 3 dollar cable with this guys name on it then a 500 dollar vid card he likes....I would rather buy a vid card or a system with dapunishers name on it. then at least I know it is probably a decent item....

He's not a 90lbs nerd, which is probably why this image sells so well.

He's not a 90lb nerd but he sure is ugly

I've seen this guy play one game of UT2003 and he camped his arse off. If some guy did that to me I wouldn't even finish the game. But then I don't play games for $10,000/$20,000 a pop.

I agree that the idiots are the people who are making the insults. Any competitive game will have lots of cash prizes if it has enough following. If professional bowling, golf, etc. are considered "sports" then why can't pro gaming. The video game industry is bigger then hollywood so expect professional gaming tournaments to only get even bigger. That includes pro gamers stars :/
