Always make sure your kids are born on a Friday. That way you have the weekend, and only have to take off 1 day at the most.

fuck this. with my first we went into the hospital Friday, wife birthed Saturday morning. We couldn't leave the hospital until Wednesday (bigger bill and the hospital sucks in every way).
Second kid, we went in on Monday and were out Thursday morning.
I have no idea why everyone is inching to get back to work. "Well, I wouldn't exactly say I've been missing it"

So your kid is a Saturday child.

I took the two days my wife was in the hospital. But I work from home so I didn't really need to take off more time. She (daughter) spent most of the day sleeping back then anyway.

My employer provides 8 weeks paid paternity leave and I took the full 8 weeks for each of my 2 children.

My wife on the other hand took 8+ years off.
Still waiting for her to go back to work.

Work allows 1 week of paid paternity leave. I took that, plus tacked on a week of PTO. You can take up to 12 weeks through FMLA. Next time around I will probably take the 12 weeks. I don't really care if 11 of those 12 weeks are unpaid.

He's talking about my and someone else's response to Nickbits.

It's not my fault that he left out the little wink or tongue icon to let me know he was joking!

I'm not sure if I was joking or not. I hate it when people take time off for their kids but I'm probably just bitter and jealous deep down. If I had kids, I'm pretty sure I'd use them as an excuse to take time off work as much as my job allowed.

*edit - Nevermind, I can't remember exactly... it was a hectic time in my home. At any rate, I took just a few days off.

10-14 days for the two kids. Plus I also took some time off (wife wasn't working everyday) for about 8 months with my son so that he didn't have to go to daycare until he was almost one. For both kids, my mom stayed with us for the first month.

I don't know what's appropriate but I took 4 weeks off. 3 weeks of paid paternity leave and 1 week of PTO.

Wow, so these vary quite a bit. If she doesn't need a c-section, I think I'm going to take around around 1 week give or take a day or 2 depending on when it falls.

I did this too. 4 wks total when my daughter was born. It was plenty of time for me to get adjusted but for OPs situation, I have no idea what the adjustment period is like for the 1st kid to get adjusted. I'd guess 2 wks would be appropriate.

when i drop the bomb end of the year, ill be like F U, i came to work every day on time and didn't make any excuses to be 2 hours late and all the bs

And on that day not a single fuck will be given

I don't have kids, but when I do, I'll probably only be able to take a couple of days off at most. Whatever the least I can get by with is without the girl leaving me for a more attentive mate. Gotta keep the store open though.

2 weeks for #1. 2.5 months for number 2 (2 weeks paternity + 2 months FMLA - daughter had medical issues).
