Howabout text based? I started Dominant Illusions BBS way back in '89 first on a C64, then a C128 with a 300 modem running "Color 64" then "Fantasy Rollplaying". God FR rocked! It was in color! Then I went all out with renegade and 6 lines. Woot!

golden sun(s) and breath of fire(s), ive got both of both of them for gba
that is ofcourse assuming zelda doesnt count, seeing as its not a real rpg, not by my standards anyway

has anyone played moria (dos based D&D game)

i played that for hours at a time when i was in like 4th grade

The battle environments are 3d nonetheless. It's not "just 2d" or "just 3d"; it's both. Being not completely 2d, I don't think most people would call it a 2d game.
