Favorite All Time Text Editor?

What is your favorite all time text editor/word processor? What is your least favorite?

My favorite by far is nano. I use it weekly and it has saved my skin many times when I needed to fix stuff via ssh.

My least favorite is Word Perfect. I want to kill that program with fire every time I see it.

I've consistently used vi(m) since college (20+ years). Lately I've started to switch to IDE type editors, and SublimeText is pretty good. Notepad++ on Windows is also really good. At one point MS Word was great, but I dont use 90% of the functionality so it just seems bloated. Least favorite is probably one of the open source office editors.

I use Programmer's notepad for folding and custom syntax highlighting and find-in-files.

I'm sure others could be configured to do the same, but PN was the first one I got to how I liked it.

I also sometimes use text pad for its file comparison function to easily find differences between versions.

I've tried the others... Notepad2... Notepad++... But they all end up having some kind of annoyance I hate.

Just Notepad myself.

Works for me.

I do have a different one at work I use for MasterCam, but can't even recall the name, it's just installed with it on the computer and made for Cam editing I guess.

I don't code, so the finer points of editors are lost on me. On Windows I like Notepad++. On GNU/Linux, geany. Nano is nice because it isn't weird. It works as I expect. I've never had an editor I've hated, but Notepad gives me no joy. It edits text, but has no niceties whatsoever.

PCWrite for DOS was pretty good. Notepad works okay. Edlin worked when there wasn't any other way to edit a file (file too big). I used vi many moons ago but don't really remember much about it.

Nerds gonna nerd. Favorite text editor leads write to text editor for coding. Sure, I've used Notepad++ for years when "hobbying." Text editor for writing? Word is just fine. *dons flamesuit*

Pros:
- Supports all character sets.
- Supports inline graphics.
- No batteries required.
- Works well in bright light, even sunlight.

Cons:
- No regular expression search.
- No search function of any kind!
- No autocomplete.
- No auto word wrapping.
- No spell check or grammar check function.
- Pen interface is slower than touch-typing.
- Default interface is monochrome only - colors must be purchased separately.
- Cut and paste is really slow, and requires scissors and glue!
- No backlight.
- Saving backups requires a copy machine.
- No social media sharing functions.
