Favorite cocktail?

Single malt scotch, neat.

It's technically a "highball" which you apparently aren't looking for (but seriously that's just a subclass of cocktails), but this time of year I love me a refreshing whiskey rickey.

Shot of bourbon
Half a lime's juice
Simple syrup to taste (or not at all if you don't want it sweet)
Ice
Soda Water to top it off

I mix that in a rocks glass and it's sublime on a hot afternoon.

4oz Good Dry Gin (Tanq, Beef, Hendrick's)
1/2 ounce Rose's sweetend lime juice
1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
(or an lime juice from one of those plastic lime lime juice things and sweeten to taste)
Prepare like a Martini in a shaker and serve up.

Scotch has over 400 flavor compounds while vodka only has 4. What I'm trying to say is that vodka drinkers know fuck all about drinking scotch.

Considering I wasn't replying to you, and considering I personally drink mcallen 12 year as my "cheap scotch" and woodford reserve for bourbon, i honestly think you are full of shit, as I love scotch and I love vodka.

Obviously personal preference. Gin is the traditional booze used for it. I've read that a Gimlet can be made with rum, probably most spirits.

Same debate over gin or vodka martinis.

and cocktail is a subclass of mixed drink. not a mixed drink generally.

i had [very expensive whisky] and it was very nice, but we're not making this into a price war;

"what standard, $10 cocktail made from yer ole juices, syrups and supermarket alcohol do you prefer" is the intended message.

ofc i had some Rare Malts bottlings of Port Ellen (17~23)so i'm all up for a "bestest whisky ever" battle; you'd lose.

i like a nice grasshopper when done right, but it's a cocktail that's *so* easy to get wrong, i'll settle for any martini, anytime.

I'm curious about your definitions of cocktail and highball. I'll probably immediately forget them, ignore any distinctions, and continue calling drinks whatever the hell I want, accuracy be damned, but I'll be enlightened for a moment.

I really don't like cocktail. It's not even stereotypically trying to dislike it because it's manly thing to do. I really can't stand sugary cocktail. Most of them are syrupy and awful.

Whenever I go out to bars, it's either beer or scotch neat. If I'm feeling summery, I get gin & tonic or mojito. But beer usually does the job.

Oh, I do like a nicely made Bloody Mary.... the best I had was Blue Heaven in Key West.
