My most favourite: Q6600 G0. Performance out of this world for 2007, at a 'reasonable' $300.

- Very good overclocking for a quad (42% for me @ 3.4ghz)
- The CPU wasn't picky about needing an enthusiast board to overclock --> this was accomplished on a budget P35-DS3L ($90-100 board)
- Lasting performance: I bet even today, Q6600 @ 3.4ghz can keep up with the likes of Phenom II X4/X6/Bulldozer in a lot of tasks, including games. Not bad for a CPU pushing 5 years old.
- My first ever quad

If I was building computers earlier, I might have voted for the Celeron 300A.

E6400 @ 3.4ghz gets the "most improved" generational jump from me as I was coming from Pentium 4 C 2.4 @ 3.2ghz. However, I still feel Q6600 can be used by many people for another 1-2 years while E6400 is still only a dual core.

I agree, the Q6600 has lasted a very long time. It gets the job done, but I'm really looking forward to upgrading to Ivy Bridge. It'll probably be a nice upgrade for me.

1. VIA C3 700mhz chip on a socket 370. Didn't even need an HSF it ran so cool!
2. Athlon XP Barton 2500+
3. Opteron 146 @ 2.8ghz
4. Opteron 144 @ 2.7ghz
5. i5-2500k

2600k didn't make the list because performance/$ just wasn't there.

Huh... that's kinda disappointing considering I just bought your 2600k! lol J/K
I am looking forward to playing with the 2600k.

Haha, I didn't say it was a bad processor Its a great CPU but I had more fun with my 2500k for the price. I think its just a mind thing though.

I actually disabled Hyperthreading most of the time so I decided that I just spent extra $$ for no good reason. My loss is your gain and you got a good deal so the performance per dollar is in your favor now.

Absolutely. Thanks for the deal.

I actually liked my Athlon 64 3700+ or my Opteron 170. Overclocking was so tough back then with a DFI board. SO MUCH fine tuning. There was a voltage table to use base voltages and those % increases to get all possible combos of voltages, and we also had to play with HT and mem multipliers. Fun stuff.

I also like my i7 930 because there's a lot of switches for overclocking. While I don't own a K chip, I do have a i3 2100 and a i5 2400. Overclocking is just boring when all you can do is raise the multi and voltage only.

Celeron 300a without a doubt. I spent weeks looking for a SL32A Malaysia chip and was rewarded with a 504mhz overclock. The P2-450 was top of the line desktop chip of its time and this thing beat it.
