I'd go with the good old sword and shield combo. Versitile enough to go against pretty much any melee weapon.

Just a small two edged knife will do.

Because in close combat you don't want to get stuck with a claymore or a bastard sword and shield, when you need to be light on your feet and can STAB/Slash/cut/slice with thin clearances

a newfie and an american are sitting in the bar, when all of a sudden the american gets lippy and chops the newfie in the head, knocking him off his stool and onto the ground..

"Like that? its my judo chop" says the american, "I got that in china."

as the newfie goes to get up, the american swings around and kicks him square in the face.

"You like that too? its my roundhouse kick", he says, "I got that in japan."

the newfie stumbles out of the bar, comes back an hour later and nails the unaware american right in the back of the skull..

he turns to the bartender and says, "when he comes to tell him it was a crowbar, and I got it at canadian tire."

Bo stick, ha.

Some computer engineering major that graduated the same year I did actually put ?Bo stick? down on his resume! Who was he trying to impress? Is the interviewer going to think "I'd better give him the job or he might go out to his car, get a bo stick out of the trunk and come whack me upside the head with it."

He kept getting turned down by Intel and wondered why.

You're going to get into a fight and you could probably win it without a weapon. Maybe you're sober and he's drunk? Either way, you really want to kick the crap out of this guy and you aren't worried about any legal ramifications (assume there will be none).

That said, let's say you can have any HAND TO HAND weapon you want. One caveat: don't ask for nunchuks if you can't use them. You are just going to get any weapon, not hte skill to use it.

I can't even begin to think of what would go good in a poll, so I'll make a poll in a little bit.

"nunchuks" as you spell it (there are various spellings) are one of the stupidest weapons that are more for flash and to intimidate your opponent than they are effective (as a weapon).

2 longer sticks, without the chain, are more effective.

It actually depends on what kind of weapon your attacker has. If it is a short sword, then nunchakus are actually the answer. If you need to keep your distance, then a bo staff or a spear is preferable. It depends on the situation.

Edit: that sounded lame... I mean the ball on a chain with spikes, not the spray.

That's a morning star.

Mace == no chain

Flail == morning star on crack with multiple chains+balls.

And it it was ATOT as my enemy, I'd equip photos of Jessica Alba as a ninja-like distraction.

Nope.

A mace has neither a chain nor spikes.

A morning star is the spiky one.

A flail is the one with chains and optionally many balls.

2nd edition D&D Clerics can use flails and maces, but not morning stars as they can't have pointy or edged weapons. And we all know D&D is always right.

Morningstar is the shizzle.
Swing the spiked ball around, who the hell would be dumb enough to come near you.

Someone who understands that a morningstar is heavy and slow? If you miss the first swing, they'll easily be able to stop you swinging it if not disarm you completely. A morningstar requires momentum to do damage and building that momentum is slow over several seconds unless you're a hulking brute.

I'd probably just keep my distance until you inevitably hit yourself with it on the backswing.
