I know it's a highly subjective thing, but what are your guys opinions on the best keyboard available?

I'm looking to buy a new one... I really don't care about backlights, macro keys, LED displays, or anything remotely fancy or high tech. I'm just looking for a good keyboard for typing and general use.

So, what does everyone use or like?

My 6-year-old HP "Multimedia Keyboard" that came with an OEM HP system is still working great. I'm keeping it only because it has two USB ports on it. I don't understand why only a few new keyboards today have USB ports. It's very useful, especially for plugging in the mouse.

Logitech G15. Working on getting two of them for work also... The hotkeys would be so useful here.

Black IBM "Clicky" Keyboard

Still the best keyboards after all these years... Built like a tank and have increased my typing speed/accuracy and comfort. I can't stand using mushy keyboards anymore after these... You can snag a beige model for cheap from everyone's favorite auction site or a new one from the linked website for a reasonable amount. The black ones are near impossible to find anymore and expensive to buy if you do find one, though. Seriously, try one of these... You won't go back.

Well, bonerdoner, I would have to say my favorite is the one I have been using for over a year now: The Saitek Eclipse. I did have the one with the blue LEDs, and now I've moved to red

Nothing beats it.

I still use my Acer Airkey. In fact I just got another one new in box off eBay (the Duracell batteries that came with it had a use-by date of March 2004 - they were stone dead!). These were produced in the late '90s and was one of (if not THE) the original compact wireless keyboards. It also has a two-button mouse function built-in. Benq is what became of the Acer peripherals division that sold this kbd. There are later versions with multimedia keys, etc. But I've never seen them offered here in the USofA.

I also like my A4Tech KBS-2550ZRPU a lot if it wasn't for the design defects... It has the keypad on the left, but it is targeted to righties. Here's my review of it:

I have been using a Logitech Multimedia (full size) keyboard for over 4 years now with no problems. I've been looking for a second but can't seem to find one.

Does anyone else here have large hands/fingers that knows of a sub for the Logi?

microsoft wired 500
compact, keys have great feel(definitely click, but not loud and clanky)
good for gaming too
ive been able to press up to 6 keys at a time without "freak-out"
its also $10, and spillproof

I have the same keyboard. For the price, the quality is hard to beat. It's a reliable, comfortable keyboard and doesn't have too many excessive "frills" that I never need/want on a keyboard anyway.

I used to have a great keyboard, fairly heavy with a nice mechanical click and an integrated trackpoint. That was a great keyboard, and I liked not requiring a separate mouse for those applications that are not keyboard friendly (any developers out their, please try to use your app for a few days WITHOUT a mouse, then fix it).

Now I use a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000. Not the best, but it is fairly comfortable. Most of the other keyboard I have tried just don't "feel" right. I wish I could find a keyboard like my old one, but for USB.

I just use one of the old-ass ps2 keyboard I have lying around in the basement. They die every 3 months or so, but I have stacks of them. They're nice and I don't have to worry about dropping them or stepping on them, so I'm content.

I love my Logitech diNovo, the new diNovo Elite (or whatever it's called) also look great. Also own a Razer Tarantula, expensive but worth every penny, most solid, responsive keyboard I've ever used. I like my diNovo because it's solid and wireless.

What's up with the slanty keys on that thing? I must admit that having the numpad on the left makes a lot more sense. I'm surprised more people don't make keyboards like that.

As for me, I'm currently using a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 that I got for around 14 bucks. Its keys feel somewhere in between the classic style and those from a laptop. After trying the saitek eclipse at Circuit City, I think it has slightly better key feel but not necessarily worth 25 bucks more.

AndeeG,
. The "pyramid-shaped" key layout is supposed to be an ergonomic feature to help with RSD/RSI/CTS. But if you take a piece of tracing paper and mark the locations of the key centers of a normal keyboard and then lay it over one of the A4Techs with the pyramid keys, you'll find the centers to be almost the same... So it turns out to be more of an optical illusion. But it doesn't get in the way after a couple days use. I've heard that you can get it in normal key layout if you want, but it's hard to find more than a few models of A4Tech out there with Froogle, etc. They don't import the one I really wanted - the wired KBS-29 which wouldn't have the majority of the design/execution flaws seen in the 2550.
