RTS: none
TBS: Shogun 2
Shooter: CS 1.6
Adventure: Ocarina of Time
Simulation: Kerbal Space Program? RCT2, if that doesn't count

Only thing I'm anticipating in the near future is the Witcher 3 game.

I like X-2. Best use of the job system so far. You can switch in the middle of battle & get special powers.
And oodles of Accessories. Including some crazy awesome ones like Iron Duke and such.

RTS: Rise of Nations. I liked the focus on tactical battle over resource gathering.
TBS: Hmm, probably Civilization IV. I'm more a fan of tactical RPGs than TBS games.
Shooter: Right now it's Bioshock Infinite. Again not my favourite genre but I just really enjoyed that game.
Adventure: Grim Fandango
Hard Simulation: Toss up between IL-2 and MS Flight Simulator 2004
Arcade simulation: TIE Fighter
Management/Tycoon: SimCity 2000
RPG: Knights of the Old Republic
Puzzle: Portal 2
Platformer: Mirror's Edge

TBS - Sins of a Solar Empire
Sins isn't turn based. It's a 4X RTS game. I really need to install this game back on my computer.

Age of Emipires III
Rome Total War
online shooter - America's Army 2 or maybe Bad Company 2
single player shooter - Far Cry or maybe System Shock II

I don't play managment games so I'll replace that with Tower Defense and say Defense Grid.

Shooter: Half-Life 2. No game since has ever given me so much satisfaction and enjoyment as when I first set foot in City 17. Honorable mention goes to Bioshock.

MMO: My first and no matter how much I claim to hate it now, it will always hold a special place in my gaming history.

RTS - I almost have to ask myself "which one did I play the most?". And that would be the original Age of Empires+Rise or Rome. Settlers 3 might come close.

TBS - that's easy, this one is not close. Alpha Centauri.

Shooter - this one is hard again. There are so many great ones, from the very old (Unreal, HL, SS2), to the old (Far Cry, HL2, Doom 3) to the moderately old (FEAR, STALKER), to the fairly recent (Metro 2033).

It would be a tight finish between 2033, Deus Ex, Doom 3, HL2, and FEAR for me, but FEAR ultimately wins out. I've replayed that game more than any other FPS. I love the setting, the atmosphere, the visceral combat, the cliched but compelling story, the interesting characters (for a FPS).

I had more fun playing FEAR than any other FPS.

Adventure - I going to take some liberties and include Tomb Raider here. It is one of the great all-time gaming achievements and belongs in any gaming Hall of Fame.

RPG - Gothic. If you never experienced it you missed out on one of the great RPG experiences ever.

Sim - I'll go off the path again and choose X2:The Threat for this category. I was only immersed for a month or two, but I'll always remember that time as some of the greatest gaming I've ever done.

Sports - Tiger Woods 2004 for PS2.

RTS: Probably C&C Generals Zero Hour
Action RPG: Diablo 2 LOD
Party RPG: Toss up between Baldurs Gate 2 and Icewind Dale 2. I much prefer IWD2's character and combat mechanics, but BG2 is more epic.
TBS: Does MissionForce: CyberStorm count? I even started making a spiritual successor to it!
TB RPG/TBT: 4th gen Pokemon games. Those were the last Pokemon games I played - I lost interest after that. The problem is they actually consume too much time. I think I have something like over 150 hours on Diamond alone, let alone Platinum, HeartGold, Emerald of FireRed (3rd gen, I know).
Shooter: The first Deus Ex or Deus Ex: HR. I dont play many shooters actually. Or maybe BioShock.
Fighter: probably SSF4.
Simulation: Played hours of Transport Tycoon. I played OpenTTD recently but I think they f**ked it up. Industries were closing left right and centre because I didnt service them enough. It may be realistic but its very irritating.

RTS: Brood War. no contest.
Shooter: UT99. also no contest.
RPG: Mass Effect 1 I guess? My real favorite RPGs were all on the PSone

Can't really delineate games for the other genres. There's so much crossover I'll have to think about it more. If i break down the broad genres into more specific subgenres i can probably get a better list going.

RTS: All time, probably Rise of Nations, yeah.
TBS: I find it hard to pick anything other than the original Civilization. I could easily go Alpha Centauri here though. Or Civ 4, or even Civ 5 post-BNW.
Shooter: Never been big on this genre though I did play Quake 2 a lot (relatively). UT99 too. Man that was a long time ago.
Adventure: Star Control 2.
RPG: I was never into old school RPGs, so maybe Fallout 3.
Sim: Caesar II (I acknowledge 3 was better but I have a soft spot for 2. I also liked 4.) Or Simcity 2000. Or to pick a different type of "sim", there was the 1988 Red Storm Rising which is still awesome.

These are almost all old games, so certainly the nostalgia is talking.

Most all my choices fall into the RTS/RPG catagory.
RTS: Homeworld (series), Spell Force (series), Dungeon Seige (1,exp,2) & Titan Quest.
TBS: Shadowrun returns, Warlock MotA & ToEE.
Shooter: Borderlands 1&2, Portal 1&2.
Sim: Pharoah
Platform: CPA hit the nail on the head with Giana Sisters but also Jet set Willy and Loadrunner.
