for those that EDC a knife, put a pre-paid flat rate priority envelope in your carry on bag. If you get popped with your knife you can mail it back to yourself.

While many airports can provide postage, I have found you end up paying about a buck per first class mail stamp and they often don't have scales handy nor flat rate priority envelopes.

The leatherman micra is the only really small knife I've found that is worth having. Everything else that small that I've used was pretty lousy.

OK, there is absolutely no logic here.

The micra isnt a knife, its a multitool. It HAS a knife. Are you saying the knife on it is the only small one worth having? Cuz in reality its a piece of shit.
If you want a small tool with a decent knife try the Sog Cross Cut.

If you want a small knife try the Spyderco bug series.

Wouldn't something like a razor knife with replaceable blades be better for your use? Use one of those for opening chemicals, and keep a good knife for other things.

A razor knife or box blade is almost too sharp to cut tops out of bottles and stuff, and that's not all I use it for... but it's out and opened probably 15 times a day.

What are the holes in the blade for?

I suppose it makes it lighter... the handle is Kydex (I think) and the whole thing is very light (compared to a typical solid-blade wood handle lockback.) I don't really care about that, but the cutouts allow me to hook my thumb into it and flick it open with one hand.

I have another version out at my in-laws in Nevada that is a completely skeletonized version of it (with metal handle same blade but I don't like it as much.

I use a Kershaw Chive as my EDC. Pretty much the perfect knife for me. Sharp as hell, small, and assisted opening. Only gripes I have is the clip: way too tight, and honestly I'd prefer it if it had a SOG style clip.

I'd never carry any multitool around, I keep them in my glovebox.

My EDC:

The leatherman c33bx, half serated blade, regular and philips head screwdriver and a carabiner that doubles as a bottle opener. One hand open and close of all functions allows a great deal of usability especially when working arround the house.

Here is what my Gerbers look like after about 3 months. Notice the pits in the edge of the blade... that's what muriatic acid and salt do.

If you routinely destroy your knives with acid why not get one with a ceramic blade.

Ceramic blades chip easily.

I have a Boker ceramic pocketknife, and the back of the handle is open which let the keys in my pocket come into contact with the knife blade. It got chipped up real quick. Bad design, but still a very fragile blade. That wouldn't happen with good steel.

Look at it this way.... I spend $100/year on knives, a knife is just a tool... like wearing out a screwdriver, or buying factory ammo for a pistol or something (consumable.)
