Favorite Punk or Ska bands?

If that's what you think ska is, then you don't know ska. You've seen the Blink 182 version of ska, watered down so Bobby and Suzy living in the burbs can claim they listen to "punk" or "ska".

The addition of horns can make ska seem more upbeat but it doesn't have to be. And I'm not sure where you've seen dancers, I've never seen such a thing. Singer, drummer, guitars, horns, keyboards, but never have I seen a ska dancer. Check out The Pacers sometime.

i think he's saying that the poppier ones sound good, but the others don't... i'd have to agree *puts flame suit on*

LOL, I guess I'm not sure what we're talking about.

There's definitely a huge range of ska though. Check out some early Skatalites and it'll sound to most people like some strange form of reggae, and for good reason. Here's a good page with info on Jamaican music.

naw, i dont like the poppy ones at all.

the ska i do like is a little harder than the ones with 5 dancers on stage (think bosstones @ warped tour)

those bands being link 80 (r.i.p), rx bandits...

even then i dont even like them that much. i listen to hardcore/metalcore/whatever you wanna call it... from autumn to ashes, a fall farewell, taken, thrice, poison the well... the lyrics are freakin great (well, if you can understand it, or read the lyrics from the leaflet), and the guitars are more technical

Going through my MP3s again, I forgot to mention the Subhumans, 7 Seconds, Descendents, and I think the Toadies could definitely qualify as punk.

And seeing what the thread ahas deteriorated into, I leave you with a Dennisesque song title.

I've checked out a number of bands mentioned. A lot of you seem to diss good bands, and then name some really sh*tty bands that nobody's heard of. Popularity does not indicate talent or lack thereof. Get that through your thickass skulls!

I will however note that the band "Guttermouth" seems to be one of the best 'unknowns' I've ran into at this point. I don't like Black Flag. Yuck. Sounds like total garbage to me. Same with the Casualities.. *shudder*. There's a lot of good MxPx, and Social Distortion seems pretty good so far. "Wizo" is good, also.

i like dashboard, limbeck, saves the day, cheswick, jimmyeatworld, getupkids, astoria, cio cio san, further seems forever, lost north star, hot rod circut, juliana theory, lyndsay diaries, midtown, onelinedrawing, promisering, rooney, save ferris and tom racer

all are good, if you really wanna check out a cool punk band, astoria is awesome, download 'the stars are restless alone'
oh and download thursday 'paris in flames' or 'cross out the eyes'

i have more, just aim me for them )

And you obviously didn't read what I said. I said that I had heard them classified as that. You are right I don't listen to ska bands.
I guess it was wrong to listen to the people that classified them as ska. Disregard my answer.
