Buuhhh...
favorite song of all time?

that's a tough one.
I'm a big fan of Elvis Costello's "What's So Funny", but Radiohead's "Anyone Can Play Guitar" is fantastic.

Oh, and I think to have a song you need to have somone actualy singing in it, anything else is an instrumental.

I can't say there is one definitive song I love because I enjoy so many equally but one top contender is All Along the Watchtower by none other than Mr. J. Hendrix.

There is no question that this is one of the greatest musical pieces of all time. Many movies, and shows etc have used it at the pivotal emotional point in the show it seems. It simple can stir (any?) persons emotions at a few simple notes.

Ironically I think the best version I have ever heard is from "immortal Beloved" itself.

Ludwig had some choice beats.

Nobody has ever heard of this stuff. I feel lucky to have heard it.

I've heard of both of thoe bands, but not the songs. I listened to those bands, but decided I don't like most prog. I'm a huge Dream Theater fan though (as I'm sure you know DT's Mike Portnoy is in OSI) It's good, no doubt, but I just can't get into it.

As for me, probably a Metallica song. Maybe Fade to Black or Orion.

ORION was one of my most favorite songs, learned it backwards and forwards....

OSI has Portnoy from Dream Theater, along with Kevin Moore, first piano player for DT, who left to form Chroma Key, which is similar in setup that that of Trent and NIN. Kevin Moore is a frickin genius. The newest Chroma Key CD is called Memory Hole, and about half way through it you can't help but feel incredibly mentally vulnerable. He is incredibly cerebral with his music and I swear he could put you through vertigo if he wanted. Chroma Key is very Pink Floydish.

Honestly, if YOu like DT but don't like other prog, you might like OSI better than DT. Its simpler, more melodic, and the singer sounds more like Pink Floyd style than Queeen. And I will add this edit, Trent is an amatuer when compared to Kevin Moore. And I like trent. Chroma Key has some of the best Bass tracks I have ever heard, regarding things that make your subs slam.

Either

Bark at the Moon - Ozzy

or

Hallowed be Thy Name - Iron Maiden

Leaning towards Ozzy, though.

Techboy, what songs do you recommend then? I listened to maybe 4 or 5 tracks from OSI and only a few from Chroma Key, and none of them jumped out at me. Same with Pain of Salvation. Actually I think the reason I wasn't that impressed is because it is so simple. I listen to metal mostly, so I like a lot of action in the music. I still enjoy a lot of simpler songs though, so I'll give em another shot.

tracks, 1,2,4,5,7,10 for osi, but I really recommend the whole cd. The best way to appreciate OSI is in a set of really good headphones with the lights off, chillin style. Otherwise, only the obvious top layer of the mix will come out, and you will miss the best stuff, like the light effects kevin uses on his voice.

The thing about OSI and why they are called Office of Strategic Influence is that they are basiscally saying they can control your mind through their music. Kevin Moore even says he doesn't want to be labeled prog, but "martial music" because he says he puts forth same level of efforts to maximize his discipline as found in black belts of a martial art. he knows everything...... about music anyway.

Chroma Key is definately chilling music, not metal, but more like Pink Floyd.

btw, kevin calls himself a sound designer, even though he can play better than bach ever could.
