the part where Yoda pulls out a light saber. Not even the movie.

Episode II was just atrocious. Thankfully Lucas handed over the reigns to others, there won't be any 'yes' men to help Lucas screw the pooch.

Empire is without a doubt the best. Jedi was going strong until Lucas went full on crazy and began playing just the tip with what would be his eventual rape and destruction of the entire franchise.

Bows and arrows vs. fucking lasers and walkers.... FFS... We should have seen the rest of the trash coming down the pipe after those scenes.

The endor scenes would have been amazing if the ewoks would have all been massacred to cover the strike team making it into the facility to destroy the shields. Instead ewoks destroy an "entire legion" of the emperor's most crack stormtroopers. God it was terrible.

Amazing to me when I was 5 watching it. Trash now.

best bits of Jedi:
Jaba palace and Sarlacc
Leia bikini
Luke v Vader v Emperor (to me, this is the best sequence of the entire series)

I don't mind the Ewoks so much--it's a great theme, problem is they are just made to be fluffy and cute. you have ancient tribe defeating modern superior technology. Think Afghanistan vs all of history's failed attempts to concur it.

The Ewoks were a marketing device and some of you may not remember (or have even been alive back then), but they were cloaked in great secrecy before the movie came out. When the initial wave of ROTJ Star Wars figures was released, the Ewok figures were blacked out on the back of the package (the photo showing the entire figure lineup) and I believe the 2 Ewok figures in that initial wave were actually held back until the movie premiered.

In retrospect, the Ewoks seem to definitely be a sign that Lucas was suffering from the early stages of dementia. Our next big warning came with the Special Editions. Remember, as bad as the prequels later turned out to be, I don't think anything captures my horror and shock at Lucas' "original vision" than the absolute fuckery he implemented in the Jabba Palace scenes in ROTJ: Special Edition. That should've been enough of a clue to me to stay away from the prequels.

Amazing to me when I was 5 watching it. Trash now.

The movie was fine until the Ewoks were introduced and the last confrontation scene is still one of my favorites scenes in movie history. One last funny note -- since Disney now owns SW, I finally gave up and bought the SW blu ray collection (I swore I'd never buy it under Lucas' watch). I had completely forgotten that the senile old asshole added the cheesy "Noooooooooooo!" scream from the end of Revenge of the Sith to the final battle between Vader/Emperor/Luke. Lucas just had to get one last jab in, didn't he?

I remember seeing ROTJ in the theater and loving it as a kid. I never understood this anti ewok hate. As a kid they were fine. My entire childhood was Star Wars and the toys and the ewoks were definitely part of that. Not as cool as the milenium falcon but you needed a couple to blow up while playing. Plus they had that glider toy that dropped rocks.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the Ewok and Jar Jar hate is part of a trend. Ignore them if they weren't your favorite character. I didn't watch the smurfs and go "You know, Jokey really bothers me, and I need to post on internet forums in 30 years how much Jokey bothers me!"

I was 12 when ROTJ entered the theater, and at the time, I thought Ewoks were "OK." Looking back, they annoy me but good lord, I'd prefer the Emperor have "entire legions of his best troops" composed of Ewok platoons rather than look at that retarded moron Jar Jar.

Well, this *IS* a discussion of the Star Wars movies and whenever those movies are discussed, there are always a few recurring themes:

1. Prequels sucked
2. Lucas is a money-grubbing dickweed
3. Ewoks sucked
4. Han shot first
5. Jar Jar needs to die violently

I believe I was 12 when ROTJ came out, and I was at an age of just starting to develop cynicism toward things like Ewoks. They instantly annoyed me and that is the only one of the original Star Wars movies I haven't seen multiple times.

The whole "Lucas is greedy" thing is most baffling to me. The dude could have really tried to milk the SW universe like crazy but never did. He always stuck to his own direction (for better or worse). He could have thrown DVDs out early on, then remastered special editions later on. He sat and waited and did the DVDs right (to him), just once.

If anything he was incredibly stingy about SW. One thing is for sure, I am really looking forward to seeing new SW movies from different directors. If I was running the show, I'd sign up a wide ranging group of three different directors and let them each do a trilogy in different timelines. I would stagger the releases every year so that each summer we get a new SW movie and after a decade we have three new trilogies, each with a different storyline, era and feel. Now that is milking it!

Yeah there are definitely some reoccurring themes.

Back to Ewoks though you and are are roughly the same age so didn't you watch the TV specials as well? I remember as a kid liking wicket but today I don't think people can really get that since the TV specials are not really part of the Star Wars world anymore. I'm sure many here don't even know what they are.

I don't judge Star Wars based on what I think today. I'm a grown man. Those movies were for kids. I apply the same thing to the new ones. Ugh they disappoint me so but I wouldn't be surprised if 9 year old kids like Ep I-III.

No, I didn't watch any specials involving the Ewoks or their cartoon shows back then. As I mentioned, I didn't really "hate" them back then, but I wasn't a big fan either. I was really indifferent to them but did think they were out of place in the movie and that it was an obvious move on Lucas' part to cater to young kids and sell more toys.

Well doing the math I was actually 8 when I saw it in the theater so I think that makes more sense.

Every fucking minute of all six are stupendously horrid visual, aural, and mental torture.

The people who complain about the latest 3 are beyond hope, as it's like saying, 'This shit smells worse than this shit'.

All of them are the theatrical equivalent of romance novels for children.

Also, since you asked, here they are in order of quality.

Gili
Troll 2
Village of the Giants
Shark Attack 3: Megalodon
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
The Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones

I'm old enough to have seen all 6 when they opened in theaters. For its time, IV was absolutely incredible. Light sabers?! You *never* would have seen something like that in movies before Star Wars. The special effects were cutting edge, and more importantly, added to the movie (rather than subtracted from the movie <cough> Jar Jar <cough> for the sake of using them.)

Storywise, Empire was a bit better. And, when I initially saw VI, I saw the Ewoks as little more than merchandising - selling toys to little kids.

I bet randomrogue and Sliver Prime are wishing this poll was private. How awful it must be to admit Episode 1 was your favorite.

As much grief as Phantom Menace gets, Attack of the Clones is by far a worse movie. Episode I was boring and forgettable. Plays out like a bad Star Trek: TNG episode. Episode II is just a disaster. Dialogue is just atrocious, the forced romance is unbelievable, and the plot makes little sense. Episode III is the better off the other two but it gets far more credit than it deserves. It's still a bad movie for the same reasons Episode II is a bad movie.

New Hope and Empire are tied for me. I like both for different reasons. IV is a good throwback to the old serials where V is a more serious and philosophical film. Jedi is where the series jumped the shark. Though I still love the space battle and the scenes with Jabba, minus the song routine in the special editions. I usually just fast forward past the Ewok stuff.
