Why? Do you pity everyone else that does not have the same opinions as you do on other subjects?

No, I pity anyone born without a brain, it's got to be a tough way to go through life. There are a lot of different reasons to not like a movie, but to be bored by Das Boot is clearly a sign of simply not understanding it. If you need something blowing up every 7 seconds to stay amused then yes, I pity a person like that.

I think Das Boot put me to sleep. it also struck me as rather...cheesy? :\

You know what I need to see?

The Battleship Potemkin. that's what

...keep meaning to check it out, but never get around to it.

Ooooh!!!
I watched it just a couple of months ago. For it's time, it was VERY impressive. Overall a great film. The steps scene is just so fvcking awesome!!! And it's been recreated so many times by so many other directors (Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress is my favorite, but I also enjoyed the remake scenes in Brazil & Godfather too!)

You forgot the opening of Naked Gun 2 1/2!

...or was that just a spoof of The Untouchables, which really wasn't an homage to BP?

Another great film that is a comedy-drama but set in the Pacific theater WWII is Mister Roberts with Henry Fonda and Jack Lemmon. Just a great great movie.

One of the most retarded plots in film genuinely RUINED a an otherwise terrific movie. SPR is the most frustrating movie I have ever seen.

You either have to accept the "one man's life has as much value as an army," trope, or you don't.

My biggest hill to climb in accepting SPR, as well.

I bought into it eventually, though, when I realized that I couldn't really sympathize with the dictum of the Imperial Army of Japan.

Wasn't that Naked Gun 33 and 1/3? I don't really recall that well.. I don't think I've seen any of the Naked Gun movies since the late 90s when DVD's have come out to be honest....

If you want to go really old school, check out Billy Bud (1962)

Not so much a war movie as a cerebral , I described it as "12 angry men on a Brittish war vessel in the 1800's"

Was also Terrance Stamp's movie debut.
