Faxing something from work...

I need to fax something. Trying to debate if it'd be okay to do it from work. It's an insurance application. Otherwise, I'd have to wait until I can get to a FedEx/Kinkos tomorrow. I could ask someone also in the morning.

Do people here tend to fax things from work when they need to, or is that a big no-no?

It may be different in your environment, but in mine faxing is pretty fair game for all.

Depends, I have a fax machine right next to me so I have free reign....others may not. I don't think anyone would say no to be honest.

I see it as ok because it doesn't use up company resources (possibly one sheet of paper for fax confirmation).

Well, you may have the cost of the phone call, depending on how the phone system is set up and whether it's long distance, etc.

Most likely no one will notice or care.

Non-issue. Most people cost their companies more by printing personal documents occasionally, and no one ever complains about that.

Seems perfectly man-like to me. Even though it's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission, it's still the right thing to do first.

All depends on the company, obviously. I fax, email, do personal stuff at my work. Another family member almost got fired for sending a personal fax.
