FBI conducted predawn raid of former Trump campaign chairman Manafort’s home

FBI agents raided the Alexandria home of President Trump’s former campaign chairman late last month, using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Federal agents appeared at Paul Manafort’s home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records.

The raid came as Manafort has been voluntarily producing documents to congressional committees investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena.

It could also have been intended to send a message to President Trump’s former campaign chairman that he should not expect gentle treatment or legal courtesies from Mueller’s team.

Just a nothing-burger here I guess. First the Russians hacking the DNC/Podesta emails and creating fake news propaganda was fake news, then it was confirmed by intelligence. Then the Russians goal of wanting to help Trump's campaign by doing this was fake news, then it was confirmed by intelligence. Then the collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign was fake news, then it was confirmed by Trump Jr.

Staying up on the developments I've been expecting that Flynn, Manafort, Kusher & Trump Jr. will be the likely arrests when Mueller finishes their investigation and starts laying charges. Maybe Manafort is more significant out of this bunch than it has appeared so far.

Right about the time the meeting became known. I'm guessing they were already looking at him and that meeting was a big trigger for them to move quickly to preserve anything they felt they weren't being given voluntarily.

Perhaps Mueller has been using the Senate testimony of these various cretins to catch them up in lies and omissions? Maybe he lied to the committee about something they knew to be false and that galvanized the search warrant?

IMO both Manafort and Flynn are protegees of Trump in the field of financial shenanigans that straddle the boundary of what is legal. Flynn's problem is he is a neophyte in that field. Both are headed for very substantial legal problems. They are probably counting on Trump pardoning them but his lawyers may not let him.

Very odd timing that the FBI employed this hardball tactic right after Manafort supposedly cooperated. Maybe he's keeping two sets of books?

My main worry with all this is that it might push Trump into an (even more rash than usual) decision over something like NK. He has to know that approval ratings go way up when we get attacked (9/11) or at war. That's not to say the investigation should stop of course.
