FEAR and graphics card choices

I haven't been around or kept up-to-date on the new gear out. On a slight budget for a card that can handle FEAR for my son. I picked up a Dell deal on the 5150 a few months back so I have a P4 3.2 w/ 1GB ram but the 300 series ATI is dying running FEAR. Any recommendations?

Neweggs clearence has the X800GTO and the 6600LE in between $50 and $80. Thoughts?

The X800GTO will have some trouble running FEAR, but it should be able to run it at acceptable framerates (depending on the resolution you plan to run it at, of course). Another option is to get an X1800XT for around $217 (newegg). the 1800XT will blaze through fear.

Thanks for the fast reply. I just bought him a Ninja 250 for graduation so the 1800XT is out of the question. This rig mainly gets used by the younger kids playing games online at Nick or CartoonNetwork so my oldest won't get the best this time.

You prefer the X800 over the 6600LE?

X800GTO is far better than the 6600LE. it also has the potential of unlocking (depends on the card) to become essentially an X800XT (PE).

The gto is not bad either. Depending on how much you want to mess with it, it may overclock and/or unlock for considerably faster performance.

Just for my own knowledge. What would be the difference between the X800 Pro and the X800GTO? I know the Pro he posted above is 256MB and the GTO is 128 but other then that are there any drastic differences? I have been with newegg since early 2001 and the guy I just called told me to refuse the package when it comes and I will get a full refund so I am thinking about that link posted above for $89

The pro uses the r423 core
The gto uses either the r423, r480 or the r430 core.

The x800pro is basically the same card as the x800gto, except that the pro is clocked at 475mhz while the gto is clocked at 400mhz. If you plan to overclock then both will usually reach somewhere around 500+ mhz (r423 and r480 only), but some gto's use a x800xl core (r430) which tops out at ~430mhz. If you dont plan to OC then the pro is better.
