FEAR Benchmarking

Hello, if you would please post your FEAR integrated benchmark results and your current rig's specs, it would be very appreciated. If you can, please run the benchmark with these settings:
Computer settings: Maximum
Video Card settings: Maximum EXCEPT Volumetric lights off, soft shadows, off. 4xAA, 16xHQAF, 1280x960 resolution.
This is for diagnostic purposes, plain and simple.
Minimum: 25
Average: 40
Maximum: 73
Pentium D 820 2.8GHz
2GB DDR2800 Corsair XMS2
nVidia 7950GT @ 585/1540
Just trying to compare and collect data.

Oh, BTW, realized I didn't put the full reason in my first post, this is for a survey in AP Statistics. I'm testing that you can perform a sampled survey without the threat of bias. So I decided that FPS in a game is pretty much impossible to be biased because any falsities (such as very high performance for a low grade system) can be reported and excluded.
Anyways, I wish I had your system.

Don't worry, this is my first real, high-end system. Everything I had before was low-range, so this is the first time I'm getting such performance. Cost me a bundle of work and money, but it was well worth it.

Hmm, it would be interesting to see what causes the difference in you twos performance. It's hard to discern from your configurations, since some areas are stronger/lesser on both systems. Anyhow, thanks davidober.

One possibility is the "commit charge" differences on our computers. I've heard that can slow things down a bit if it's too high. Mine is 322 right now. What's yours, nightmare? I checked mine with all programs shut down and only processes running...

Just a question...what difference does the volumetric lighting make in terms of Image Quality....I normally run with it one and use slightly lower settings...but running this test with out I get much better frame rates at higher settings and I can't tell the difference

Dude, what you are saying is not possible. I guess you have probably switched off Shaodws by mistake. That makes the scores 1.5times.

Please select eerything to maximum from the main menu and then select 1280x960 from the sub menu under graphic selection. You should get somewhere around 40avg.

Nope I double checked it...I was pretty puzzled by the results....I have the soft shadows off but everything else is maximum....when I turn on volumetric lighting my frame rates drop 20% on average, these are the results that I got

I just ran again making sure I had shadows on, but soft shadows off(like the OP requested) but everything else as before

I am unable to understand. What do you have in your rig that nobody else has. I have seen a Core 2 Duo E6400(at 3.2GHz maybe) + @GB RAM + 512MB 1900XTX getting avg 75, min 33 FPS on these settings. No 7900GTX has even been able to get the scores you are getting.

One thing is possible that you have disabled AA and AF in the CP so that it can't be enabled in game and you may have chosen high performance. Try to bring back CP to defaults if you can take the risk and then test again with everything maxed out.

I checked that too....AA and AF are enable


oops missed a setting, I had image Quality set to high performance not Quality....that must overide the Application control for AA/AF

oh just one question to those who have used riva tuner....how do I unlock the extra Pixel pipes and Vertex shaders on my G71 core 7800GS....I have 2quads disabled and 2vp disabled....what setting do I use to enable them?

I've never used riva tuner before.

I couldn't find where to turn off soft shadows. Running latest version - game auto-patched, I haven't played it in awhile.

Opteron 165 @ 2.5, X1900XT @ stock, 2GB RAM DDR500 3-3-3-8 1T, commit charge 398M (it's all CCC's fault)

EDIT: I uninstalled CCC like I've been meaning to do (dropping commit charge by a full 100 MB) and I rebenched. Got 34/69/170. I figured it wouldn't affect much on a 2 GB box.

All options set to MAX except soft shadows, which is poorly implemented anyway. Audio is also set to MAX, 128 voices, EAX and HD enabled. Resolution is 1650x1050, 4xFSAA, 16xAniso. This is box #1 in my sig. Don't have one for box #2, but I can run that tonight if you need it.

FEAR 1.08 at 1650x1050 widescreen
