No, it's not a good game in any way, in my opinion. I think it's silly how it's so hard to run well, and what do you get? I don't see any crazy graphics..Even if the shadows or whatever are better than most games, who wants to spend $400 on a 7800GTX to see shadows? useless. The visual appeal of HL2 is greater, even if shadows and things are not as good as they are in FEAR, it's just all around much better.. and as we all know, is incredibly scalable. Oh, and the levels are fairly boring.. I just don't get the game, I don't like it at all.

lol, u still don't get it do u? Paxton Fettel wasn't paxton fettel anymore, he was being controlled by Alma. Take reading classes again if you can't understand the storyline.

I saw some crazy graphics in some scenes. Maybe ur still using ur FX to play or something? Once again if you don't have the money to buy hardware to play FEAR and MANY OTHER GAMES, don't blame the game. Blame UR SELF for being lazy and not working hard to buy stuff that u need.

He saved me 50 bux, thanks MoonBoy!
I was going to pick it up this weekend, but now I think I may go with Age of Empires 3 instead, like I said thanks.

Its a good game that plays pretty good and definitely looks better than the rest out there atm. The ending is good, fits into the story and is a classical cliffhanger...

I think its funny that most of the people bitching are on midrange cards and lower.

The game looks beautiful at max settings.

I thought the game had a solid story line and some good action. The graphics I don't think were as good as HL2 either, but both endings left you a tad 'wanting'. It certainly beat Doom 3's endings AND graphics...AND 'spook factor'. While I agree that it certainly wasn't a 'jump out of your seat and hide under your desk' game, it did a solid job of having a few good surprises, and a nice bit of 'hallucinogenic effect' in the action. I would put it some place between HL2 and Doom 3. I'm still working on Quake 4 and CoD 2

My opinion on FEAR was this: certainly a fun game with good game play, and I personally like the ending. Then again, I'm not crazy about bosses. I don't understand the concept of making a game that plays one way for 99% of the game, and then requiring you to completely alter that style to finish a big boss at the end. I guess that is a matter of opinion.

My main beef with the game was the lack of level diversity. Yes, overall there were a number of different settings, but way too much of the game took place inside the office building. The lighting was great and so was the gameplay against the squads, but the surrounding was the same drab office over and over again. Grey, corporate, and uninspired. The actual office I work in looks better than that. That being said, the gameplay is fun and the setting becomes considerably more interesting once you get out of the office building.

The graphics are more sophisticated that what we saw in HL2, but Valve did an excellent job of establishing settings with different moods that went really well with the different parts of the game. Plus, they were pretty unique. FEAR is full of old FPS standby settings: the office, the basement, the elevator shaft, the building under construction, and a decent amount of vent crawling (something quite unrealistic that seems to enter into almost every FPS... why?). Monolith does them well, but do they really think they are being clever...?

F.E.A.R = very repetetive game, nice graphics, not satisfying of an ending, bad multiplayer.

I'm not so sure, I like the multiplayer. You don't play it to "get good", like say in Counter Strike, you play it to have fun and laugh. It's extremely satisfying to scissor kick your opponent to death after he's emptied an entire clip at you. It's far better in LAN, where it's a bunch of your friends jump and slide kicking each other.

Additionally, I loved the FEAR ending. Kept you hanging like HL2. While I did like the HL2 gameplay better, FEAR had much better shadows and lighting effects. If nothing else, FEAR is the closest thing to HL2 to date in terms of fun.

This game is amazing, and if you can?t run it with anything good then quit complaining. I'm running on almost maxed out setting with my ATI 9600XT 128mb video card. yes the game is short but I think the ending is perfect for the game, nice cliff hanger, because you know that they are going to make a second game, I mean seriously they didn?t hype this game up as much as they did just so they could make one short game. Ok I do agree that the office surrounding did get a little annoying after a bit, but I could care less with the AI. Cranked the difficulty up as high as it went and man, their teamwork.....best AI I have seen in a long time. And those of you who say HL2 is better, I couldn?t stand that game. Graphics were ok at best, game play was good, but it was a bit buggy and I hated the story, it only interested me for so long. AI sucked, as there was no team work involved that I could see that wasn?t scripted. And the ending....well I waited a long time for that game and if that?s all they are going to give me then they can have their game back. What really killed the game for me though was Steam. When I first got the game I was running off a 56k modem, and believe me it was not fun.

Just got done beating FEAR (yeah, I took my time) and I'll say a couple things about the game. I thought it was very realistic and had a tangible feel to it that no other FPS has ever gave me. I liked the music a lot and that fact that they weren't afraid to use gore or crusing was a plus as well. I had trouble following the story and don't think they explain much throughout, you just have to kinda peice things together as you go along. I thought the game itself was rather difficult but with slow-mo you are basically unstoppable as someone said, I think they should have made activating it take off like 1/8 of the bar to stop me from using it to fly around corners fearlessly and such. I liked the weapons also, and having to carry a max of 3 makes you think about ammo and weapon selection in certain spots of the game. I have a fairly new PC with a X800XL so was able to play at 1280x1024 with lots of stuff disabled (I'm SOOOOO happy the FEAR.exe renaming bug was discovered while I was only halfway through my progress, was able to gain an average of 8 FPS) so it would get choppy only in parts but played smooth enought for combat. Now for the ending... of course there was no ending  kinda lame, but they made the game so they can end it as oddly as they want. Overall I enjoyed playing it and thought they did a good job with the game.

Err... were you running 640x480 or enjoy low fps? Just wondering because everything maxed out really taxed my 6600GT at 1024x768. It ran alright, but got a little pokey at times. My new OC'ed C3D X800GTO handles it much better

Maybe you guys should just stick to Harry Potter books. Nothing like a long lasting book with a fulfilling ending.

Now only if Max Payne 3 was coming out any time soon.

You'd think so...

But I must comment. I actually quite enjoyed the last level of the game. The ending was short but I'm used to that kind of thing by now.
