Fearing the worst...

I'm building my new machine using:

Antec P160 case
MSI K8N Neo Plat board
AMD 64 3000+
Antec TruPower 420 PSU
Saphire 9600 Pro


I plugged everything up, and tried a test boot - and got nothing. No hard drives spinning up, no fans turning, no action on the MB. The little light on the MB isn't on either. I tried the PSU on another system and it worked.

Worst case - my MB is defective. Is there anyway to test that before sending it back in? Also, those of you familiar with the 160 case, if the switches were plugged in wrong, would that cause this problem?

This is probably the 4th system I've built...been lucky enough to not have this happen before.

I usually test using a screw driver to short the power on pins instead of the switch in cases like this.

That just sounds scary...


Anyway - I pulled it apart and started from scratch.

It's working now. I think I had too many brass spaces on the motherboard tray. I cleared the CMOS too.

For future reference, its not scary at all to start your computer with a screwdriver. Your case switch could be bad and causing you problems and you don't realize it. When he says short it, all you do is for a second make contact with a straight screwdriver on the pins that your powe switch gets hooked up to. I do this all the time to boot computers not installed in a case.
