So when the government says you cant teach creationism in science class, that is bad because its people telling others what is right and wrong. When the government says you have to get vaccinated to go to school, then the government is doing the right thing?

And folks thinking the two are similar is a lot of what's wrong with our country today.

Not often that a cheer rulings from the courts, but in this case, I absolutely approve!

This woman

From the linked article,

The Supreme Court, Judge Kuntz wrote in his ruling, has “strongly suggested that religious objectors are not constitutionally exempt from vaccinations.”

In other words, the government can tell people what they must do to their bodies.

This is one step from other crimes against humanity such as forced sterilizations.

We need to be careful when the government has the right to enforce certain medical procedures up its citizens.

No, the government is forced by the stupidity of others the control their ridiculous behavior for the benefit of those in the majority who believe they are imbeciles. What I don't like is being forced to apply government authority, when the kind of stupidity such people should have been prevented by liberal education. I don't like being a nanny to imbeciles. It is inexcusable that we allow so many to be so ignorant with all the resources we have. Most people look down on idiots like this Mother and Jobs, but I have sympathy for them. Our culture creates people who can't intelligently assess risk.

Wondering how many people posting in this thread have gone to work sick?

Hypocrite much?

Because going to work "sick", where those you could infect someone who might be out a few days and be absolutely no worse for the wear, is not the same thing spreading polio, where a lifetime of not walking awaits. Turd.

Life is a full, beautiful range of degrees and shades of gray. Polio =/ common cold.

if I miss a day of work I will not be able to make my house or car payment.

You have a shit job, find another one where they give you a certain amount of paid days for sick leave. Most jobs including many part-time ones include said benefit.

How many cases of polio were reported in the United States last year?

The linked article in the opening post was talking about chicken pox.

Somehow in your mind chicken pox = polio?

I was speaking in third person, not first person.

I have over 300 hours of paid sick time built up. Then I also have AFLAC in case I am off for an extended time.

My issue is people who live by one set of rules, but want others to live by a different set of rules.

So, to be clear, you argument is that since we do one wrong thing, that endangers the lives our our co-workers, we should do the other thing wrong, and endanger the lives of our children, as well? Just to be consistent?

Yes we need to be careful.

Sterilizations =/ to vaccinations. They're not in the same ballpark, solar system or frankly universe.

It is not a matter of sterilizations vs vaccinations, the government is using the same laws and logic to justify both.

If the government has the right to tell you to take this shot, what else can they do? Maybe force everyone below a certain IQ to be sterilized? Oh, we already did that.

Do we have the right to control our bodies? Yes or no? There is no maybe, or sometimes, or this or that. We have a basic human right to decide what we put in our bodies.

There were none last year thank god, though there have been some including an Amish newborn in 2005 who was of course unvaccinated due to their religious beliefs.

Now address the logic of it; would you rather have polio, mumps, rubella, etc. or would you rather have a common cold for a couple days?

Btw, many employers tell employees not to come to work sick, it's quite common corporate policy in fact.

No they're not. There is no social or god-given benefits to avoiding vaccinations. None. There certainly are benefits to having children, above and beyond perpetuating the human species.

We don't, currently, do that in people who can consciously speak for themselves.

So not giving your kid a vaccine because you are too stupid to admit the benefits, but schools banning the teaching of non science subjects in a science classroom is government over reach?

How is thinking Creationism is right, even though there is tons of data to dispute it, any less stupid than vaccines being harmful even though there is not any data to support it?

We have a right to control what we do with our bodies up until the point where we may negatively impact someone else.

I'll make that argument right next to you, but I will not say that if you choose to go to work you should send your kids to school as well. Two wrongs don't make a right.

That slope is not as slippery as you are trying to make it out. The Government also tells me I can't drink and drive, is that leading to my forced sterilization? They are the same argument, the Government is telling me what I can do with my body.

When are we going to start sterilizing people on welfare?

I am getting tired of supporting them.

Drinking and driving is not the same as diseases.

Drinking and driving is not the same as diseases.

But it is control over what goes in your body. If you can argue that you have an absolute right to not put something in your body and then do something that causes a danger to others because of it, then surly you must also argue that you have the absolute right to put something in your body and then do something causes danger to others because of it.

Chicken pox is not even close to drinking and driving.

Does the government tell you have to drink? Are you punished because you do not drink?

Drinking and driving is not the same as diseases.

Welfare as a government program was stopped during the Clinton administration.

If you're tired of supporting other human beings you can:

move to a different country which has no government assistance programs

commit suicide

stop paying taxes

Pick one.

Chicken pox is not even close to drinking and driving.
So it is a matter of degrees? Like the difference between vaccinations and sterilizations?

Does the government tell you have to drink? Are you punished because you do not drink?

It is the same argument in inverse. The government tells me I can't drink. I am punished because when I do drink.

The government does not say you have to get a vaccine, but you do if you want to go to public school.

The government does not say you cant drink, but it does say that if you want to drive, you cant.

They do seem pretty close when you look at it the way that I am seeing it.

Lets say you do not get the flu vaccine, get sick, go to work, infect someone with HIV/AIDS, that person dies.

Should you be put on trial for manslaughter?

What what? This became a Texashiker anti-vaccination Straw Man thread?

Bull crap.

I am pro-vaccine. As stated earlier in this thread my kids were fully vaccinated, I got a tetanus shot when I cut my leg with a chain saw and even my dogs are fully vaccinated. What does that chainsaw post say from January 2014? Tetanus shot.

When I picked my puppies up off the side of the road, the first thing they got was a 5 in 1 puppy shot.

Chainsaw - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2364606

Puppies - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2372178

My stance is the rights of the individual versus the authority of the state.

We should have a right to decide what happens to our body without interference from the state.
