Federal Jury Duty

I just received a summons for jury duty for the fed courts here in KC which is across the street from where I work.

Just wondering if anyone has served on a federal jury.

i get full pay from work, plus federal pay and reimbursement for travel/parking. was great.

remember to jot down how much you receive and stuff because it's taxable.

I got a federal summons in 2009, never even had to show up for court. They had me on the hook for 2 months and said they could schedule me any time over that period. About every other week I got a notice saying I was on for the following week, call the court hotline the day before appearing to get scheduling changes. I called the night before and every time I had been excused for the following day. I think I got a total of five appearance dates and five notices that I wouldn't have to show.

Not federal, but I was on a jury for 3 1/2 months on a local issue.

I did last year, was for a bank robbery and car jacking. Took about a week. I enjoyed it personally.

Murder case last July for 3 days, paid $17.20/day. Took us 2 hours to find defendant guilty of 2nd degree murder. We were within 5 minutes of being placed in a hotel if we couldn't come out with a unanimous verdict that night (9 pm cut off time).

First poll was 7 for 2nd degree and 5 for 1st degree. Had to convince the rest that evidence presented by the prosecuting attorneys was not sufficient for a 1st degree verdict. Glad it was over after the verdict was read and 12 of us were told we can leave. Did not find out what the sentence was.

A friend was called in for federal jury duty for a mob case.

She was 6 months pregnant at the time.

The first round of jury selection, she was not excused because of the pregnancy.

The second round she was, but only because the trial was expected to take 3 to 4 months.

My mom was on a semi-mob case once, but it was state civil court rather than federal. A connected guy died and there was a legal fight over where he would be buried. Ex-wife wanted him in the plot they bought together, his blood relatives wanted him in the family plot.

I thought the mentally disabled were deemed unfit for trial.

They're probably also unfit to sit on a jury though, so that explains it.
