Everyone who thought Federal Regulation was a good idea got a dose of reality today when it was announced that over 7,000 workers in the field of Airport Security not only do not have high school diplomas but don't need them!! All they need is a year on the job!! These are the same MORONS who we hear about daily screwing up in their jobs. Just today I heard 2 stories about security breached, one man got 6 bullets past in a carry on and another got a 9mm on board!

Where is the so called "training" and "standards" the Federal Government promised us? :|

And this isn't a one sided issue. Democrats AND Republicans supported this garbage bill :|

I heard that some airlines are once again dispensing silverware in first class. Apparently, lots of people were complaining.

Someone should take a knife to their throats.

No, but it will make it tougher to acquire these positions, and therefore raise the general level of intelligence amongst these workers.

Education enriches and cultures a person, gives them a broader spectrum and should teach them to think analytically. Thus, nothing learnt in High School will help airport security guards

Thank goodness we can all sleep easy knowing that there's a new scapegoat to replace Marilyn Manson: airport security.

It's just amusing that they make a big fuss about taking away things like nail-clippers and then proceed to hand you a steak knife 10 feet away from the cockpit.

Well. the way I understand it, if they try to meet the original education standards half the airports will have to close until they find the manpower that does meet the hich school education standard.

All they are going to hire are minorities. Many come from countries as adults with little to no formal education. It's the Government for god's sake why are you surprised?

You are telling me that with all the people out of work right now we cant find 7000 people with high school diplomas to fill the role?

Sigh, they didn't even offer to get the current people UP to that level. Thats Federal Intervention for you.

I don't know of any out of work people who would want a thankless job like airport security.

Also..

I think you will find that making these people federal workers is going to be one big headache.

Know what? The war on terrorism will be about as phony as the war on drugs. Government agencies say they can save us from terrorism, but where were they on 9/11? They care only for more money and power. Our money, and our liberties.

Since their saleries are doubling and in some cases, tripiling, I think you could easily find the people you need in this economy.

You legalize drugs and you create a new war to fight. The war of abused children in households from parents who abuse drugs.

Are parents that don't do drugs going to start if they are legalized, and in turn, start beating their children because of it, where as they didn't beat their kids before? That's a pretty far reach there. Some folks need to realize two things:
1. illegal != people won't do it
2. legal != people will do it.

just what kind of person can't finish high school these days?

poor? - nope, its free for everyone
less smart - nope there is a remedial program for just about everything, not to mention grade inflation (75% of the kids at my son's middle school were on the "honor/grade inflation roll")
single mother? - nope, they got in school day care.

people who either flunk out (is that even possible?) because they are moron's, or are so under-motivated they can't get up and go to school.

i guess the good news is that instead of becoming unemployed drug abusers, alcoholic's or petty criminals, they will be gainfully employed as Airport Security. I feel safe already!

Nothing far reaching about it. Drugs are addictive. It only takes a few times sometimes only once to get people hooked. You legalize them, more people will be willing to try them. Its not a reach at all.

bah........!
You guys ought to be better scholars of human nature and government!
There is no corellation between drug usage and drug laws in western countries.
In Holland, FEWER teens smoke pot than in America.
Now, if you go to the extreme, like in Saudi Arabia, Alcohol use is lower, but the punishment is extreme!
