Fedex Destroyed My Laptop Delivery

Thought I'd share.

I shipped 7 old Dell laptops Fedex Standard Overnight from Tampa to Baltimore. They were all put in their black leather Dell Laptop handbags along with their adapters. I put them all in one tall box, almost a perfect fit and surrounded them with enough bubble wrap to securely keep the bags stacked in the center. I taped the box really, really well. All the tape that you see in the pic is mine. I stuck some electronics warning labels on them.

Our policy where I work is to never ship equipment over the weekend as we don't want it spending the night in a hot truck (Still hot here in Tampa!) or hot warehouse. I overnighted the delivery yesterday.

The good news: Insured for $10,000. We'll see what happens when my helpdesk guy opens her up...

Yeah.. UPS fucks my package too.. XBOX 360, controller, and 9800GT all fucked. Hopefully I'll get my money back in the claim.

You should have refused shipment right then and there.

Typically with insured business delivery we accept shipment and then file a formal dispute with Fedex through our account rep. They normally send someone out to take pictures of the box. We will not open it until this is done. Then we assess damages.

That's a lot of insurance.
You should examine the contents if you have not already.
They may REJECT your claim entirely claiming the packaging was inadequate.

I've had laser heads that were packed in FOAM, sealed in a strong box then had foam around that box and finally a wooden box on the outside screwed together. One tube was broken ($30k) and they tried to fight the claim. The box was impaled with a forklift and they had to pay up.

Good luck with that.

is anyone else thinking the way the OP shipped these things was a horrible idea to begin with?

My boss shipped something similar via fedex and recieved the package even though it looked like above picture. He wasnt able to get a freight claim because he recieved the package. (to find out if the material broke inside, since you have to sign before the freight carrier would allow him to open the box)

On a more positive note for you.

Typical, they could not damage the crate with their usual baseball bats, so they had to bring out the heavy artillery.

We typically ship laptops at 1500\laptop for insurance. We've dealt with bad shipments before. They always try to fight it. That's pretty typical. It's like dealing with any other claim. This is how we have dealt with these things in the past with Fedex.

Fuck deliverymen.
Deliverymen raped my sister and murdered my mother. I would pee pee slap them if I could get my peener out fast enough, but they usually race past the house and fling the box on the driveway.

Wait until they stop to pee, run up and bite hard.

Call me crazy, but that looks like a pretty old box that couldn't hold the weight.

You'd think that. I took that box right out of our "box cubby" unfolded it and constructed it, and taped it. It was brand spanking new. That's part of what makes its arrival condition so nuts.

First thing I thought about when I saw the pic... electronics typically come boxed and protected by foam(and I don't mean peanuts), this prevents the outer box from being crushed like it is in this pic. I hope you win the dispute though.

You do realize that FedEx has custom shipping boxes designed specifically for laptops, right?

You fail. (Though in honesty the box should never have ended up that bad anyway)

Course in the OPs defense, it does say "FRAGILE ELECTRONICS" all over it. Though that's even more incentive for them to play soccer with it.
