FedEx Home Delivery fiasco

I ordered a laptop from Newegg. It shipped FedEx Home Delivery. Out for delivery last Friday, I didn't receive it, status read customer not at home. But we were home all day. Later I found a delivery notice in my mailbox down on the street. Lazy shit didn't want to walk up our driveway, and never even made an attempt to deliver the package.

Saturday we sat around waiting. We have a sign on our front door that we are home. Once again nobody shows, and the status says customer not at home. Not even a delivery notice this time. Called FedEx and bitched to no avail. Tuesday they said.

So today it is out for delivery again. We are out in the yard all day. My wife comes in and checks the status and once again it says customer not at home, at the very time I was down by the street doing yardwork. No delivery notice.

I called FedEx and finally spoke to a manager. The delivery person is a third party for FedEx. The person took the vehicle home after she was done for the day. So the manger says they'll get the package and I can pick the package up tomorrow at the local facility which is no problem for me. Obviously this is a lying piece of shit individual who either is too lazy to walk up our driveway or has absconded with the package.

But I am wondering if there is anything to pick up? This smells like a stolen laptop and the eventual FedEx we can't find the package. In the event this is true, what is my next move? I used Paypal with my credit card. I would appreciate any advice.

tl;dr FedEx home delivery sucks.

I doubt it's stolen, if it were they would act as if it was delivered (when actuality it was stolen). I've had similar experiences in life, best to just pick it up. Not sure what else you can do.

These days I like redirect my UPS shipments to local shops that take items. Then I can go pick them items up at my leisure. Mind you some of those shops are totally disorganized, since they're often just grocery stores that agree to take packages.

I don't think Fedex has the same setup though.

Home delivery and ground routes are owned by independent contractors. In the terminal I worked in years ago, one dude was buying up all the routes when the owners retired. He owned about 1/3 of the ground routes at the time. He then hired people to drive the routes for him. Sometimes the people he hired were not so capable. He would go thru 3 or 4 drivers before one would stay on. They would come back with plenty of packages not delivered. The owner gets fined unless you key in things like "customer not home".
That said, home delivery seems the simplest as they give you a route to deliver by each morning and number your packages for each stop. The driver just has to follow the route.

FedEx here is weird, their office is only open at very specific hours and you need to schedule your pickup. It's kinda a pain in the ass as a few places ONLY ship Fedex.

The last time I had to go get something it felt like I was doing a drug deal or something, I had to go through this back alley and knock at a non descript rusted out door. Only thing missing was one of those little sliding windows in the door where the guy asks who I am before opening the door.

What I hate about couriers in general is that they do residential deliveries during the day. 99% of people are going to be at work. Why bother, they should do deliveries after 6pm. I guess 6-10 would not be enough time to do everything.

I've had UPS pull this sort of crap (saying they've delivered or tried to deliver when they didn't). FedEx is really pretty good in my area.

USPS will toss shit somewhere near my door, toss it in the driveway, cram shit into my mailbox even if it doesn't fit, leave crap laying on the sidewalk that totally could have been put into the mailbox.

In the OP's situation, having them hold stuff and letting the OP come to get it is the only reliable solution.

Generally speaking, I've had better luck with UPS. We once had the truck deliver our package to someone just around the corner - my wife was outside and heard the truck stop at the same time it was reported delivered. They actually sent someone out to interview me. Luckily it was only a DVD burner, not a whole computer build. Blows my mind that they have no signature required option for a grand worth of parts.

Also, UPS generally tries to conceal what they leave, although I'd prefer that they also ring the damned bell so that my wife will go out and get it. By contrast, our FedEx driver has a disturbing tendency to stand things up against the door with the picture side facing the street. I don't think a large monitor or TV would last long in that situation.

Fedex Home Delivery is simply a crap shoot. If an unreliable delivery person gets your address on their route, you can be completely hosed as you're basically at their mercy. If you get a lazy delivery person and they decide to skip your block one day, then you'll get skipped until whenever they decide to deliver.

I'm not sure what the difference is between "Fedex Home Delivery" and just Fedex who delivers to my home - are they different? Because the Fedex guys we get don't appear to be independent vans but full size trucks and they always deliver for us. All of them have, including Amazon independent vans. Really the only thing I can bitch about is I'm home all day every day and sometimes I don't get UPS delivery until 7pm.

Anyway, sucks OP. BTW, are they allowed to drive up your driveway? If not, that sucks for you even more.

I went to FedEx this morning and amazingly they had my package. How can a driver say he/she attempted delivery three times, not leave a door notice the last two, and blatantly lie about the customer not at home? What a bunch of BS. I hope the person gets fired.

I rarely get Fedex delivery. Some UPS (usually ground), but the great majority of my deliveries are by USPS. A lot of UPS deliveries are shunted off to the USPS, for actual delivery. I have a porch at the top of some stairs to reach the front door. A smart delivery person will stick a package behind a pillar, i.e. out of view, the dumb ones put it right in front of the door. Only once did I have a package disappear. It was one from Amazon and they made good and sent another. I figure the first one gone missing could have been a case where it was left at the wrong house.

Fedex at home is their ground service. Requiring a signature is up to the shipper. You can put that into the shipping options when you order something.

It might help if you wrote this in a detailed email to both the shipper and Fedex, rather than in a post on ATOT...

I had already spoken with FedEx in order to change the delivery to be able to pick it up. The FedEx person was very helpful and said they would investigate why the delivery person did not do his/her job. The guy at FedEx ground was apologetic too. I will contact NewEgg as you suggested. I was just very frustrated as this has never happened to me before.

Ahhh, FedEx home. My project fi sim cards shipped from a center 23 miles from my house to New Berlin, WI which is 100 miles away.
Instead of going southwest, they went due north.

Just so I got this right, people pay for (home) delivery and are Ok with having to go pick it up at a location?
One of the whole reasons I order next to everything online is that is shows up on my doorstep and I can get it while sitting in my underwear.

Tell FedEx to FUCKING DELIVER YOUR PACKAGE. That is what they get paid to do. Not to get it to their location so you can come pick it up.

The only issue I have with our local FedEx guy is that, if he don't need a sig, he will just leave the package at the end of the porch. No knocking. UPS and our local mail carrier always knock.

Yeah this tends to vary with the delivery guy du jour at my house. I have notifications set up for each carrier so I get a text as soon as the package hits my doorstep. Most will knock or ring the bell, but the text is the safety net.

That's a good idea. I'd recommend this too, OP.

I hate expecting and waiting for a package and having them fuck it up, or annoyingly put that goddamn "SORRY YOU WEREN'T HOME!" tag on your door (yep, some people have fucking jobs during the day and aren't home!) so you can see it after work and have to wait until the next day, at the earliest (and when you're AGAIN working) to pick up the package. I was at a UPS facility picking up a package after a tag was left for me, semi-recently, and a young guy was in there complaining about this exact same issue.

I've since started marking my shipments "will pickup" and have them sent to a local UPS Store that's super close by so that way I can pick them up and not have to fuck around with that bullshit. I remember when packages used to be delivered though, it was nice. I don't see why having my package delivered by my door is so terrible or hard. I don't need the shit I order to require a signature; if I did, I'd choose that option explicitly.

My local Fedex and UPS drivers are excellent. I probably get 2-3 packages a week on average, and I've never had an issue from the normal local drivers. With that being said, I ordered a package from Amazon a few months ago and paid the extra $4 over prime to have it sent 1 day delivery... which was also Saturday delivery. Some of the overnight delivery stuff is handled by carriers out of Atlanta (I live about 45min from the airport but well outside the city). I was home all day Saturday, and nothing. Around 4:30 I got the notice that the package couldn't be delivered because I wasn't home.

1) I live in an apartment complex and there is always someone in the office on Saturday from 9am until 6pm.
2) my apartment is a open loft style place but it's only ~1300 sq ft. There is nowhere in there that I can't hear a knock on the door.
3) they left no door tag

After they did the same thing on Monday (while I was working) and left no tag, I ordered the item again via Amazon (this time it was like $15 cheaper) and called both Fedex and then Amazon to have the first package returned to sender. I talked to both companies at least twice and they assured me it would be returned to the sender.

It was delivered to me on Wednesday of that week.

/facepalm

I was expecting a package delivery earlier this month. I stayed home all day waiting for it. It was a Friday. Around 8pm I checked the delivery status of the package and it said that a delivery was attempted. Lying bastards! I needed the item so I went to pick it up myself on a Saturday because they were not going to attempt to deliver again until Monday.
