Lesser of the two evils?

UPS has a habit of dribbling your package, FedEx has a messed up tracking system. Oh the pain!

Cheers!

depends on everything

weight, distance traveled, insurance, etc....

APO/PFO: Post office
Heavy stuff: UPS
Heavily insured stuff: UPS
Stuff withinn FL/Intrastate: UPS
Express to canada: FedEx, if i like the customer. (Fairly cheap and no borkerage fees), otherwise USPS express.

UPS is better and FedEx is going out of business. Some reasons why I like to use UPS:

Internet Shipping. You can pay for the package online, print out the label, put it on the box, and drop it off at a customer counter or a drop-box. I'm pretty sure FedEx ripped off this idea.

Signature Tracking. UPS offers free signature tracking for MyUPS/Internet Shipping users. I'm not sure if FedEx stole this idea yet... but they will if they haven't.

Also, people on this forum are quickly and easily biased when it comes to shipping companies. Basically, one guy reads on ATOT about someone's problem with UPS. Then, if he ships or gets a package through UPS and there's a small problem, he'll come back here and bitch up a storm.

UPS and FedEx are both reliable shippers. UPS has the advantage of having a larger ground network while FedEx can't seem to make any money.

its not dribbling, its more of a bucket brigade thing where you've get 2-3 guys tossing packages from the conveyor to a driver loading/sorting his truck.

Not sure that they're evil, but undoubtedly UPS is the worst.

FedEx, unless you want a monitor which was used as a bowling bowl (UPS).

I prefer UPS rather than fedex because fedex always leaves my packages either outside of my house or with people who I don't know, which I don't like

Yes, UPS is evil.

Two packages I recently shipped came to me very messed up. I packed my stuff into new boxes and even double boxed the computer I was shipping. Both boxes came very dirty on the outside and with one edge of the box totally demolished so that they had to tape it up. I don't understand how these new corrugated cardboard boxes can suddenly have one side explode under normal handling. What I think happened is that they stacked my boxes up high and they fell down during shipment. You would not believe how awful the boxes looked. The force was so great that my computer which was boxed inside one of the boxes with about 1 feet of padding at least per side was in very bad shape. The heat sink had fallen off. This is a heat sink that I have a hard time removing by hand even with a screw driver. also the hard drive cage which is screwed onto the case was pulled out and that location in the case was moved about 1 inch from the rest of the case. I can't believe the force was that great that it bent the metal there. The surprising thing is that after I put everything that fell apart together and rebent the case, the computer was able to boot. Not sure how long the hard drive will last since it must have felt many Gs during the shipment. I also and an UPS(not the company) whose case was crushed. What bad luck. Two packages in one shipment totally destroyed. I did not even bother filing a claim since I hear it is very hard to get your money, and I was able to fix most of it.

I'd pick UPS over FedEx now.. cheaper, easier pickups, plus their brown trucks make a nice sound when braking, letting me know when they are going to drop by...

So far, im 100% on UPS. They always seem to always get my packages there when they promise.

But anyways, if you complain your packages are damaged, how about packing your items safe enough to withstand such tortures? You probally know packages get beat up badly inside a warehouse. Goto one and see them process packages. If you had to move 10,000+ boxes a day, theres no time to waste in "carefully" and "gracefully" moving each package.

Yeah, but insurance money doesn't replace the one-of-a-kind antiques that UPS slaughtered. I say slaughtered 'cause everyting in all three boxes had damage (some of it beyond repair), two of the boxes were caved in, and one had 'bout a 1" hole torn in the corner. And don't mention the "you shoulda packed it better" 'cause all the boxes said "Fragile" and "handle w/care" all over them and thanx to 25yrs in the Army (read: moving every 3-4yrs) my parents are pretty d@mn good at packing stuff for shipment.

which is why i never ship anything rare and one of a kind.

if i need it somewhere, i'll take it there myself. its like airline baggage. dont check it in if you cant bear to have it slammed, broken, lost or all of the above.

I understand routine bumps and dirt and stuff. But there is no excuse for a box to come with a whole edge torn apart and holes in many places. I understand that there will be bumps and bruises, but for a box to come torn apart and a computer that is double-boxed inside it with 12+ inches of padding around to be damaged, the only explanation is that it must have dropped at least once from a height of lets say 8 feet. That is not acceptable. These were new corrugated cardboard boxes I shipped. They came to me with torn edges (and by torn I mean that the most of one of the long edges along the box was gone such that everything inside would be able to spill out, and this was not even the glued edge it was along a solid paper fold) and were retaped by UPS I assume. Even someone carrying the box and dropping it would not result in such damage since corrugated boxes can withstand quite a bit of mistreatment. I'm not sure what happened on their 2000 mile trip.
