fedora vs mandrake

Other than openOffice program and some other things like easy install, what other benefits does Mandrake offer over Red hat fedora?

although i've not used mandrake 10, but i've used Mandrake 9.2. also i've used FC3test1. Between the two, I'd say the stability & maturity/robustness of Mandrake 9.2 has raised it's head couple of times. With FC3test1 i've had some initial teething troubles, but with most of them ironed out used some kind of workaround, I'd say I'm quite happy with the FC3test1. BTW, OO is bundled with FC3t1, so you'd not miss it. Note that latest fedora is FC3t3, so it's approaching stability & maturity faster, note that FC2 got stabilized in about 3 test cycles.

I like Fedora over Mandrake because it supports yum and apt-get officially.

Of course, with urpmi (and Easy URPMI ), you don't really need yum and apt for Mandrake. Mandrake's control center seems to be more "all encompassing" than Fedora's tools, as well. Really the choice for a lot of users seems to come down to whether they prefer Gnome or KDE. Fedora is pretty Gnome-centric, and Mandrake (while it does provide Gnome if you prefer) spends most of its time and energy on KDE.

As n00bish as it sounds, I have had easier installs with Fedora on certain machines than with Mandrake. I know Mandrake is supposed to be all user friendly install, but I've never gotten through a good install that worked properly. On my personally lappy, messin with the nix's, Mandrake would never boot into the GUI. I spent a month working with and trying different config settings and I never got it to work. However, the Fedora installed fined and I haven't had any GUI problems with it.

Just my two cents about it

Thats cause u have a dell and *nix is naturally allergic to dells.

I use Fedora, no real reason thats just what I started with...I will be switching to debian here in a month or two.

i am aware that open office comes in both. after trying fedora core 2, i like mandrrake more. i installed kde in fedora, but the gui look snothing like kde on other os'. then again, i am a noob, who knows what i am confusing myself with
