I currently have a GeForce 8800 GT, but it's overshadowing my processor (AMD 4000+). I need to switch to a new system...

I'm going with this, I think:
Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-EP45
RAM - 8 GB of mushkin DDR2 800 RAM (just 'cause it's so cheap)

Case - Cooler Master RC-690
Power Supply - Antec Earthwatts EA500
DVD Drive - Samsung SH-S223Q

The total comes out (after a few other random, frivolous things) to just over $600... I'm really excited about this build when pairing it with my video card.

I don't came much -- I'll probably play Oblivion, and maybe Fallout. My old system ate Oblivion for breakfast, but I ended up using so many mods that my processor really got its butt kicked. Now, I know that quad cores aren't the best for gaming, but Oblivion does support multi-core processing, and won't this still provide a pretty substantial upgrade over my old processor?

Just kinda posting to get thoughts on the above paragraph, and to make sure everything is compatible (I ran through it and it looks good, I just wanna double-check). Also, maybe there are some other comments/thoughts you guys have that I didn't address.

Thanks for the help!

P.S. I don't think I'll do any overclocking... but that's it's not positive. Just unlikely.

EA500 is plenty of power for a system like that and at $50 shipped with no rebates to mess with...go for it.

Only thing I'd change is swap Q6600 for E8400. Games like faster dual cores more than slower quad core processors.

I would go for the quad, overclock it to 3GHz more than likely on stock voltage, and forget about it. Although duals currently offer better gaming performance, it is usually in situations that do not matter. In other words, a higher clocked dual won't make an unplayable game playable even though you may be able to squeeze a few more fps out of it. Quads offer far more pros than cons and will give you breathing room for the future.

For $60 less than the heat generating Q6600, you could go with a 45nm E7300, dial it up to 3.3GHz and come out smelling like a rose.
