Winter blues have a lot to do with it. I feel like this every time the weather dips into the jacket range.

Currently listening to music that came during my sophomore year of highschool (2006) and about to play some TimeSplitters 2 on the Nintendo Gamecube I've been coveting in my closet for the last few years but never got any play. My Nintendo 64 is sitting around too...but I don't that much time to sit down and play.

There are a lot more younger members of this board than I realized.

I like the idea of nostalgia, but I rarely feel it. I guess I just don't remember stuff until I need to. My mind ventures into the past to recall things that deeply embarrass me, and to recall facts that I need at the moment. There are very few good times to be looked upon with fondness. Not that the good times didn't happen. I'm pretty sure they did, but they don't simply arise in my mind like they seem to do for other people, unbidden and without apparent connection to what is going on in the present. All that ultimately results I a paucity of nostalgia in my case.

What's crazy to me is how long coming to this forum has been a part of my daily routine.

Since joining, I graduated college, got a masters degree, got married, have had 4 jobs, lived in 3 different states, "survived" a bout with meningitis, and everyday I've got to check off topic and the other various sub forums.

I joined originally to read about video cards and other computer hardware. I'd say something about all the fanboys and massive flamewars back then, but that shit still goes on. So really, nothing has changed.

Whoa those names bring back memories. There are several others who no longer post here either by choice or other forces of nature.

I also remember when they didn't have all these extra subforums. You press F5 once in 30 seconds and the first page would be full of new threads.

Some of the subforums are perfect such as the Apple, garage, health & fitness, etc. L&R is always full of interesting threads.

I've met a number of people in person through this place, have at least one old friend (now) that joined because of me and is still a (passive) member.

Top of my list memories are...
When the account got hacked of Tomato/Happy Kitty/whatever alias she is now day. Man people went rabid over the BS stuff that was posted as her by someone else.
The Loki drama. I'm probably one of the few that missed him when he was gone though. We used to PM about Smallville episodes
Rossman was and is like the foundation of this place. He gave me a few pointers after I joined via PM that helped me better understand what was OK and not on here. Probably because of him that I've never been banned once in all the years.
The passing of a number of members. To cry about these people I never met in real life and still get sad to think about all these years later, really something...

The change in how the place was moderated at times and how mods were anonymous to how things are much more relaxed (for the better IMO) now.

I came here after reading a CPU magazine while I was working on building my 1st truly excessive gaming rig in anticipation of the yet to be released Half Life 2 and Doom III! I found the help forums for my build and then the Hot Deals, which I'm still not sure if that's a blessing or a curse. Decided to see what the Off Topic section was about and got hooked.

I was working at a crappy help desktop when I joined, got laid off. Found a even worse help desk job for less pay that I worked at for about a year and a half after that then it's been bouncing around between cities and now a different state. Have been a "Senior Systems Administrator/Engineer" for many years now as well.
I'm married for 6 years on this Sunday.
Have a 3.5 year old son.
Own a home which is my only debt with a good amount in the bank, savings, 401k etc.

Really am in such a hugely different place in life now then when I joined that if someone told me where I'd be in life now at the time joined I'd of thought it to be impossible.

I went from being in decent shape at the time I joined to slowly gaining weight. Went from a fairly fit 185lbs to a 260lbs at my peak.

In the last 6 months I've lost 45lbs though and have totally changed the way I eat and have incorporated a exercise routine that I do 3 days a week.

Really something when you stop and think about all that's happened in life since I joined here and the fact that the place still remains is really very amazing.
