Female Art Majors

Having been enrolled in America's top 2 Art schools (according to princeton review/other sources) as a fine arts major, why does it seem like female art majors (especially painting/sculpting) are more or less... talentless? Always placing lowest in school/state/national-wide competitions, being rejected the most once applied to galleries, receiving the most criticism in classes, and generally having poor conceptual ideas.

Do not get me wrong, I've come across the occasional "gem" in my courses, but these individuals are few and far between (read: understatement). And it's not like the gender has an unpopular representation in this major, Fine Arts has been experiencing the largest surge in the female demographic in decades. I would say that in my personal experience, there are more ladies in my courses than males.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Disclaimer: Though I've requested a change to my username due to flaming received, please don't assume blind misogyny. Clearly, it's a play on the "Yahtzee" and is a gaming media reference.

Who cares, none of you will be able to get a job after you leave your artsy fartsy schools anyway.

That's highly unfair...SOMEONE has to teach those worthless art classes in grade schools through college...it's not like you're gonna get an engineer with enough "imagination" to teach artsy concepts...

I think that you should not judge a person based on their success. There is TONS of great people out there that are not getting ANYWHERE.

Regardless, Art major? I think that anyone that pics this is probably doing it wrong to begin with.

Art is something in the background, hobby if you will....something to POSSIBLY (very small possibility) to fall onto.

To think that colleges actually make this a major and that people actually pick it is pretty disturbing (to say the least).

But it's not my money and it does make me feel better.

If you go to one of the better schools; it is felt that the talent can be discovered.

Ask why did you go to such a school?

i know plenty of successful female artists. my sister won all kinds of awards for her art in college even though she was an econ major at an ivy league school. she went on to get a masters degree in painting at yale and then moved to new york with some female classmates and got her stuff (paintings and sculptures) displayed in galleries and in public contests. she sold lots of paintings/sculptures, sometimes for thousands of dollars each. she now has a "real" job but i dont think i was because she was unsuccessful, for an artist at least

I posed nude for an art chick in college, pretty much only because she was crazy hot and I thought I would have a chance to bust a move. I ended up banging her accounting major of a roomate who was less hot but way more crazy.

Like 12 years later I saw her on one of those cake competition shows. She made amazing cakes, won the show, and is known for having one of the best cake shops in the USA. Apparently the art talent wasn't completely wasted.

Neither her or her former roomate have accepted my friend requests on FB.

Simple matter of least resistance, easiest path to attaining a college degree with the minimum of effort required.

So what you get is a large proportion of graduates from such programs who really have no business in college to begin with.

People with innate and natural talent do not need to attend college and get one of those degrees. So what you get is a bunch of dilettantes walking out with these degrees.

I was in an art program. Truthfully, I'd say the talent among the women in the program was half and half; some were very talented, some were not talented at all. That being said, there seemed to be more talented males than females.

/dons flamesuit for being in an art program

Look at this throughout the history of art. Calculate the number of famous male artists and female artists, and see what the ratio is.

Actually engineers have better imaginations. They just dont spend as much time showing off pretty things to the public. Most of their ideas go into products which sell for money.

Is it because the roommate got a sneak preview?
