Female car salesperson - where are they?

I've been to several car dealerships lately. Not only that, but I've not met a single female car salesperson ever.

What gives?

Bought our last car from a "sales woman", though she only showed up to shake my hand. All of the work was done by an associate "woman" and the papers were done by another guy. To me, there is way too much room for disintermediation in the car sales business. I did the research, I knew mostly what I wanted. I wanted to test drive and get the skinny on the features, but for the most part no one "sold" me on the car. So why do I need to deal with 4 people. Should be like the apple store. Walk in with credit card and leave with a car in 15 minutes. Not the Stupid 4 hour BS that I had to put up with...Tesla has is down better.

Most women are not sleazy enough. There's good money in it if you're ruthless and competitive enough to thrive in that environment, but it's not something most women will enjoy. That being said, I bought my last car from a female salesperson. She didn't really do much, I knew what I wanted and what the price should be before I walked in the door. She just took me on the drive, took my offer to the sales manager and then filled out the paperwork. She might as well have been a cashier at McDonalds punching my order into the register.

I wonder if maybe car dealerships are not missing out on something here. Women are probably more important to car dealerships than men are. They make up an increasingly large share of single owner buyers and have a lot of power over the cars married men buy, or are allowed to buy. Has a dealership ever tried going with exclusively female salespeople, or at least 50/50 and advertising the dealer as being female-friendly? Maybe the female buyers would be more comfortable dealing with a female salesperson and would skip other dealerships to visit one where they could talk only to other women.

Also, how many women own dealerships? They usually have a man’s name on them.

Yup and mgmt probably feel women are not pushy or aggressive enough in this business that requires a little stretching of the truth.

As with other businesses, I am surprised a collective of women don't start their own dealership business that caters to women. Instead, they just complain about the men doing business. For instance, why doesn't any of the rich women celebrities divest into businesses that cater to their sex.

I had a saleswoman when I bought my Chevy Cruze Eco in 2012 or 13. She did all of the work except the actual closing, when they brought in a car-bro. I literally heard him say "Let's sell a f-ing car!" as he was walking down the hall to the room I was in. In the end I got a decent deal. I enjoyed Subaru a lot more, they just told me what the car cost and said they don't haggle.

As opposed to pharmaceuticals sales reps or real estate agents whom are predominantly female. Smart ladies going where the money is.

They exist. But there is a perception that women don't know much about cars, so that's probably a hurdle.

Go to nicer car dealerships? In higher end car sales there are plenty of Women salesman in my experience.

My wife did it for a couple months, wasn't pushy enough, didn't get enough sales, out the door. I don't have much use for them outside of finding the keys so I can do a test drive. I always know what I am going to look for and always known more about the cars as well. But if I have to hang out with some useless person for a couple hours I would much rather do it with a female than some dude bro salesman.
