Because rules in which the king is everything but the queen is just another piece is sexist and backwards. Should be the other way around.

The queen is the most powerful piece, the king does what the queen does, but is limited to a single space.

The game does not reflect reality, its a game.

Maybe you reach a tipping point where everything else is divided by gender, so why not!?

Because male chess champions are weirdos who make most women feel very, very uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, the female chess players have already calculated 2^15 ways of... well... let's not go there.

Suffice to say, as backwards and sexist as it seems, segregated chess leagues are better for all involved.

Having been a chess player since age 6, and having played a number of games with the opposite sex, this is a very easy question to answer. The female mind just does not function the same way. Whereas there might be a few good female chess players, you will find that these few women were chess trained from a very early age. With lots of practice from an early age, you can change their mindset.

I've also found out that if you give one of these women chess players a female dominated type game, they will not do good at it.

What are examples of female dominated type games?

I'd say competitive knitting or sandwich making, but somehow I bet there's tournaments for those that are consistently won by men too. We can't help being competitive. On average men just want to win more, regardless of the activity they're competing in. Notice I said "on average". I'm well aware that there are very competitive women out there as well, some of which could probably beat most any man at whatever it is they do.

What I'm saying is that if we were to pit all of men against all of women at anything, the men would record far more Ws than the women just because more of them will try harder to win. It's stupid animal nature in the end, so I don't know how proud we should be of it, but it probably drives a lot of innovation as well.

I agree with this theory and honestly I think that is why second wave feminism lost so much ground in society that for a while feminism was almost a dirty word. The second wavers were much more aggressive about making it a competition between women and men, and men of the our society responded by basically saying "oh this is a competition? then you lose."

That is what is so important about third wave feminism. It focuses on women's issues without dismissing the tradition of sexuality's place on the power structure of society.

Wait, isn't third wave feminism basically saying that unless women are represented equally in all forms of media/# of employees/and similar shit, then you're being sexist?

Because I think third wave is the dumbest form of feminism yet.

Men have superior upper body strength that allows them to force chess piece moves that even the strongest women would not even be able to attempt.

Most of the chess players I seen haven't been examples of superior upper body strength.

Third wave is about girl power. Instead of second wavers who were mostly obsessed with white women taking on the patriarchy, breaking glass ceilings along the way, Third Wave feminists are about using the natural power of women to best improve the situation for all women.

So yes, social pressure to conform to some sort of expectations for representation of women probably counts.

Because they couldn't get the men's club to agree to a 45min bathroom break time.

I'd much rather see Female Strip Chess, where a piece of garment comes off with every pice lost to their opponent.

Same reason there are other leagues just for females -- they can't compete with males.

Ever watch the wnba?

That's a bunch of nonsense. I would guess that it is probably because it isn't something that women are brought up with. I bet if more women played chess from a young age and studied the game they could be just as good at it as men.

Softball and pole dancing.
Not even remotely true. Professional male softball players would utterly destroy the female players. Same for pole dance, as far as physical abilities go. It wouldn't be nearly as ascetically pleasing (to me, at least), but the males would be better.

While I do think games like Chess don't fall into his generalization, every physical sport does. Ever watch the Olympics? The best women in the world couldn't even compete with the worst men that qualified. Men are simply evolved into better physical performers, and rightfully so. Men, for the most part, are expendable. Thus, they evolved into the warriors and protectors of women, who did not need to evolve in such a way. A single man can repopulate a village of women; a single women cannot. It is the same for a lot of other species as well. Lots of male birds are more vibrant in color than the females, giving the females the camouflage advantage. Males are generally larger and stronger than females, who need time to birth and care for the young.

I think the reason Chess has a separate league is merely because traditionally there are male and female leagues for competitive sports.

I have yet to see professional mens softball and despirately do not wish to see men's pole dancing.

I'm know for certain there is a professional softball league for men, as sad as that is. Pole dancing though, I'm sure the only place that happens is male strip clubs, as I don't think a league exists for that sort of thing.

I dunno. In chess the king is important but weak and the queen is his most powerful defender. She's far more powerful than the king in terms of her abilities in the game. Seems like a pretty evolved idea of gender roles to me.

Ignore her. Just another chick that doesn't understand Chess.
