Those who can afford a Enzo are probably not even thinking about comparing it to a $60,000 level car, more or less a $250,000 modded 'vette. I mean, honestly, when you are shelling $500,000+ just for a car, I bet they already own a fleet of cars. It's like comparing a highly modified 8 second quarter mile Civic to a stock Z06. It's comparing apples and oranges. I don't think the person buying a Z06 even THINKS about buying a Civic and modifying it to the point it can beat a stock Z06. Another better example is taking a Camry and making it the ultimate Viper killer. WHO in their right mind, who has the ability to purchase a brand new 2003 Viper, buy a 2003 base level Camry and modify it to the point that it can beat a Viper? Yes, it can be done, but that is a far stretched comparison, just like comparing a 'Vette to a Enzo. I can see a comparison of a 'Vette with a 360, but not an Enzo.
Nobody is talking about taking a Corvette and modifying it. People are talking about a Lingefelter Corvette. No one is saying, hey, I can take a stock Corvette and make it faster than an Enzo, they're saying that they would rather have a Lingefelter Corvette as opposed to an Enzo.
What do you think a Lingenfelter Corvette is?
It's a Vette that has been bored out, tricked out, and plastered with performance goodies. No matter if you mod it yourself, or get Lingenfelter to do it for you, it's still a stock Vette from the factory that has been injected with some hormones.
The person I was responding to seemed to be stressing the idea that you could take a stock Civic, or a stock Camry (neither are hardly performance-oriented cars) and mod the hell out of them and make them faster than a Corvette. Obviously, I realize that a Lingefelter Corvette is still a modified Corvette...but it's not exactly just a stripped-down dragstrip car, either. Lingefelter also carries more weight with it than just some guy who modded a Corvette and has made it run 9's.
Unfortunately, I view the Lignefelter 'Vette still as a Vette. I view a RUF tuned Porsche as a Porsche. Did Lingefelter design a new engine, chassis, tranmission, suspension and interior for the 'Vette or is it simply taking an existing model and upgrading it? It's not like I'm completely oblivous to Lingefelter's work as I was thinking of purchasing a Z06 and getting Lingefelter turbo kit and the entire ten yards. But to say it's on a complete class of it's own is quite absurd, in my opinion.
It's like saying a the Blitz tuned Skyline is a class on it's own. No, it's still a Nissan Skyline. It is more expensive, but at heart, it's still a Skyline. Lingefelter is just a tuning company, just like RUF, HKS, Blitz, ACS, *gasp* Henessey, and all the premier tuners for their respective car models. For each vehicle manufacturer and more specific, vehicle model, there will always be a premier tuner that stands out from the rest. But trying to compare a tuning company to a vehicle manufacture is not exactly a comparison. Trying to say the tuning company holds more reputation than a multi-billion dollar corporation, may be it Kia or Hyundai for that matter, is not exactly an apple to apple comparison.
