I never liked the way the media plays up the "first woman on a major party ticket" bit of the story. The fact is that she was a desperation move by a candidate who knew he was going to lose. Not much different than McCain picking Palin.

I wonder how much longer we have to wait till a female is picked based on her being a great candidate and not her being a female.

technically, she was the first woman VeeP candidate on a major party ticket. The Libertarians ran a woman for VeeP and she actually received an electoral vote in 1972.
