ffdshow and Nvidia Decoder

Posted this in Software, didn't get anything, so I'll try video since it has something to do with video. (it's the same post, BTW)

Just reformatted my HD (*sigh* again) and I'm going through installing Media Player Classic, ffdshow, DVD Shrink, and all that good stuff, and I got stubled on ffdshow on a few settings. (well, really just one).

First off, something totally unrelated to my ffdshow problem. How do I get to the "Nvidia Decoder Properties?" And how can I make the nvidia decoder work with Media Player Classic, while still using ffdshow to do it's stuff.

Because I figure the Nvidia Decoder can Deinterlace it, and the ffdshow can apply it's sharpening and other stuff.

Now, if you can't tell me the above, what would be the best mode of deinterlacing in ffdshow? (and also other settings you might suggest using in ffdshow)

Thanks.

Disable the MPEG-2 Video from MPlayer classic menu.

View->option, Internal filters

That did it. Now I get the ffdshow and the Nvidia Decoder

Another thing (well, question)

It seems like the nvidia decoder isn't de-interlacing the movie. Even if I disable the nvidia decoder and go back to the default it looks the same.
Suggestions?

Use Zoomplayer. It's a more advanced player than MPC and is great for custom DVD/media playback. Zoomplayer + Purevideo looks great. Though I find that Intervideo WinDVD 7 and PowerDVD 6 both give better results than Purevideo when hardware acceleration is enabled.

Fortunately with Zoomplayer and FFDShow, you can resize the video to 1080p and use Blur/NR to make the video look better on an HD Display.

Note that with ffdshow, you won't be able to use Purevideo's hardware decoding if you have a supported card.

I haven't tried it, but I believe you can if you hook up the ffdshow raw video filter after PureVideo's hardware decoder in VMR mode. Postprocessing with ffdshow however will be software-based.

I found to make (what I'm watching) completely de-interlaced, I have to enable de-interlacing in Nvidia Decoder and in ffdshow (with the ffdshow mpeg deinterlacer) which I found to give the best quality scene for me.

This is what I have:
Media Player Classic+Nvidia Decoder+ffdshow (w/deinterlacing+Sharpen+Blur+NR+Resize and Aspec to twice DVD size (1440x960))

I also have the Power DVD decoder that I can use. Which has better quality, the Power DVD decoder, or the Purevideo decoder?

Oh? How'd you do that? I don't quite get you. I have nvidia decoder enabled on ZP's customized media playback and ffdshow set to support RAW under codecs(for DVDs) and resize/blur enabled, but even under VMR9 mode it's still software based.

I'm not really sure if Nvidia Decoder is using Hardware or Software. I only chose the settings and hopes (and prays) that it works.

I'm about to ditch the Nvidia Decoder all together since ffdshow is really doing everything including the de-interlacing.

Also, I can't seem to get ffdshow to work with ZP. It keeps saying it can't find the ffdshow.ax file when I hit the Register Button. Any Idea's? Cause I'd rather use ZP+Nvidia Decoder+ffdshow then MPC.

Edit: Also Goi fixed Rig Link for Sig:

Edit2:
Also I found out why I THOUGHT Nvidia wasn't de-interlacing. I tried setting the De-Interlacing Control to Video mode and found out that that de-interlaces the material that I'm watching much better than the auto-matic or film setting does. (I'm watching Anime at the moment. Thats the only thing I have right now, but I finally got one thing solved.

Next thing is to help me make ffdshow work with ZP cause it ain't working

Hmm, I don't think nvidia hardware decoding works with ffdshow, at least that's what the avsforums people told me. Anyway, nvidia decoder is recognized as one of the highest quality decoders, which is why I use them.

Anyway, what's wrong with my sig's rig link? It redirects to the same link for me?

Make sure you set Raw Video to "all supported" under the Codecs screen.

It will work, but only if you are logged in as Goi. :Q The other link makes it work for everybody.

Wasn't there a space or break before? Now there on the same line.

Anyway, back to topic.
I have it set to "all supported" under Raw Video (and always have, since thats the way to make it work most of the time). ZP just says it can't find ffdshow.ax or something like that. I'll uninstall ZP and try installing and doing it again (maby a different version?).

Sorry for some reason I thought you were having a filter connection error.

What verison of FFDshow are you using?

File Name: ffdshow-20041012-sse2 (I assume thats 12-10-2004). Which one should have I gotten? A non-SSE one?

This is the error I'm getting

Oh yeah, or put it in quotes like so:

regsvr32 "%PROGRAMFILES%\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"

To uninstall the filter you can do:

regsvr32 /u "%PROGRAMFILES%\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"

Uninstalling the old ffdshow should unregister the filter for you however.

If ZP continues to spew you errors, you might even have to put it in your PATH for it to work. Does it expect this file in system32?? It's rather unclear.

I have officially given up on trying to get ZP to work. I finially got it to find the ffdshow.ax (by placing it in the system32 folder) but now I get different errors when I try to start a movie.

I'll just use Media Player Classic, along with ffdshow, nvidia decoder, etc. That one works fine.

Also, is there any way to get ffdshow to use 2 threads? Or have they just never done a dual core version? Cause the second core just seems to be sitting there doing nothing while the first core is maxed out.

Never Mind about above question.

Now, I'm sorry about asking all these questions, but I'm wonder what you think the best settings to use in ffdshow. So far I got this (and put them IN ORDER):
1. Levels 12-243 on Output
2. Blur and NR denoise3d (.5, .5, 5.0 HQ)
3. Resize to 1440x960 (Lanczon4, LS: .6 CS: 0)
4. Sharpen unsharpen mask 12
5. Output YV12

Does that look ok?
