Places other than Best Buy where you can purchase a micro USB cable

Radio Shack
Walmart
Any Cell Phone Store
Staples
Office Depot
Office Max
etc., etc., etc.

IOW, the OP is full of poo, or he really does fail at life worse than... the other one.

So, I bought a PS3 on these forums 10 days ago and it gets here yesterday. All is good and well but I still needed to wait for my controller to come in which I had ordered separately. It comes in today AND THERE'S NO FUCKING USB CABLE INCLUDED!!!!! I search my house high and low, but to no avail... I used to have SHITFUCKTONS of these fucking things. So, I called up the two closest computer shops "Nope, we don't have any." but, my mom was going out for something and she asks me if I want her to look in Best Buy... THEY DIDN'T HAVE ONE THERE EITHER, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! So, I just gave up and ordered one from Newegg.

/rant

It's the same as some BlackBerry charging cables, so just go to any cellphone store.

Seriously, how stupid are you?

Hell, I bet all the damn cell phone places have them too. Or Wal-Mart for sure. Hell even K-Mart. OP's mom just doesn't love him.

I'm gonna guess Shrewsbury. Isn't there a WalMart up there? They've gotta have a USB cable.

Close, but no cigar.

@Alone What cellphone stores do you know of are open at 8:30? Besides, I thought that fucking Best Buy would suffice.

As others said, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Walmart should all have what you need.. I know for a fact Staples/Office Max do

The only problem with me going to any of those other places is that it was already too late to do so, so I just said "fuck it" and ordered a nice 15-foot cable on Newegg for $5.

Should have tried any cellphone store, they usually have them on the cheap as they are used to sync/charge phones as well.

Too late to buy a cable tonight, so you ordered on Newegg and now you have to wait ~3 days for it? :hmm:

@rudeguy It's pointless for me to post my zip code now because I've already ordered a cable on Newegg. Also, as stated before, I don't want to reveal such personal information on a public access forum.
Newegg will ship it to you using DHL to expedite your order.
Yes...they know you need it that badly.

I chose the two-day shipping and it usually ships from their NJ warehouse so I figure that it'll probably be here on the 19th as it doesn't always take two days.

Well, I figured that if I had to wait a day just to get a three-foot cable for a ridiculous markup, I might as well just order a nice 15-foot cable and wait an extra day.

If you paid more than $5 for the total order you are so dumb, for reals :\

I only paid $5 for the whole order. I just used a free two-day shipping trial.

The PS3 uses a mini USB cable which seems slightly less common now to micro USB which seems to be taking over as the small form factor USB standard. You DID order a mini and not a micro one right?

<my own rant>

USB stands for UNIVERSAL serial cable. So while I understand the need for a larger and smaller form factor to accommodate smaller devices there should be at most TWO standards or at the VERY most maybe three. Instead we have

Micro-B
Mini-B (5-pin)
Mini-A (not used any more it seems)
Standard-A
Standard-B

And a bunch of fucking proprietary USB plug types as well like this fucking thing

Whoever came up with this one should be castrated.

Yes, I ordered a Mini-B cable. I already have a Micro-B cable and the one that you posted an image of.
I agree with your rant and I wish that all of the smaller devices would just have Micro-B connectors. (Supposedly they're a hell of a lot more durable than Mini-B connectors)

I think Western Digital uses yet another proprietary standard on their passport drives as well.

@Locut0s Are you sure I'd be able to get a 15-foot cable for less than what I had paid? $5 seems reasonable to me for that length.

Well at NCIX where I work we sell 6ft cables for $1.99 all the time and 10ft ones usually too. 15ft, hmm maybe not, well I could get it myself for less but that's different

It certainly has it's advantages. I can get all the hardware I want at our own cost, or close to it. The system you see in my specs for example cost me about $2500 (minus the monitors) as an employee but the cost for customers would have been over 3k. For some things that's not much of a reduction as we are a volume retailer and our GP is less than 10% on a lot of stuff but for other things like cables it's a steal.

I usually buy extra cables from Monoprice whenever they're on sale. I have a few HDMI cables still in the packaging from them. Their shipping is kind of bad unless you live close to California or are willing to pay :\.

2. A computer shop that doesn't carry have a usb cable? :hmm:

There's a computer shop near me that carries very little in the way of cables. They mostly just have Ethernet and a few other types. I asked them why they don't carry other computer-related cables, and the guy told me that they can't compete as well against places like Wal-Mart/Target in regard to cables. But when it comes to the random computer things like 120mm fans... Wal-Mart doesn't sell those .

I think Western Digital uses yet another proprietary standard on their passport drives as well.

I have an Elements drive (the small ones that only use USB power) and I believe it's a standard micro cable. Yep, just checked it with a 15' micro USB cable (used it for hacking my ATV2).
