FIC AN11 Stealth

I just got a FIC AN11 Stealth motherboard and an Athlon XP 1500+ processor to upgrade my "guest" machine from a Celery 866. I installed the board but it won't boot at all. Ive double/tripple/quadruple checked my connections, all the peripherals (hdd, cd, fdd video and nic) were pulled from the working Celery machine. I have disconnected all the extra cooling fans. All that I get is the lights on the keyboard flicker on for about a half of a second and the fan on the heatsink turns 1/16 th of a turn.

I have an Enlight 7237 with a 300 Watt Enlight PS. The case and the power supply are the ones I used with my Epox 8KHA+ and Athlon XP 1900 before that went into my Lian-Li PC 60.

What can ya tell me to try?

Does this board have any problems that might cause this?

Tomorrow I will swap out the PS from my "Camoflage" computer or my "Bio Hazard" rig and see if that does the trick.

First, try testing the mobo OUTSIDE the case. see if it posts just with
the power, monitor, cpu, ram, keyboard and mouse plugged in. If it does post, then you might be shorting out the mobo with some screw or metal inside the case. If it still doesnt post, then it's RMA time.

I know that you disconnected "all the extra cooling" stuff but that PS that comes with the 7237 is really not too good. If I remember correctly, it was only rated "up to" a 1.2 GHz processor by AMD. By contrast, a Sparkle 300 watt will run up to and include all Athlon and XP processors, given minimum requirements for other components. You might want to first try removing all pci cards and disconnecting all other components except the bare minimum; CPU w/HSF, one stick of RAM, floppy and video card. See if it will then boot to a boot disk in the floppy. If it does, then suspect the PS. If it doesn't then try it outside the case as Shagg suggested. You also mentioned checking all the connections. That's good, but did you also check the installation of the CPU and any jumpers that may be on the board? Also make sure you have the fan on the HS plugged into the correct header. Many things to try before the RMA.

Thanks. I know the stock Enlight PS is crappy. That is my first suspect, however it worked fine with my Xp1900+ and more crap (CDRW and DVD, Digital Doc etc..). I haven't as yet had a chance to yank out all but bare minimum and give that a go. Cross your fingers.

Thanks

Don't forget to check your jumpers They can be a pain in the you know what with that board At least they was for me and if you don't have them right it won't boot

Which one(s) do I need to pay the most attention to? I set the FSB jumper to 133 Mhz but I thought everything else was supposed to be "default". I am not using RAID, and my current HDDs are not ATA100. Im not overclocking (yet).

I haven't been able to try much so far, the last couple days of work have been sucking the life out of me.

Thanks

The jumper listings (at least on the downloadable version of the manual) start on page 2-3 and continue on the next page. They concern the CMOS, FSB, "Future Ratio Unlocked CPU", RAID and CPU Core voltage (manual or default). All of those will need to be correct or you will not boot correctly.

Here is what ive tried...

CLR_CMOS jumper 1-2 Normal (Default), FSB Speed Select 1-2 133 Mhz, JP1_4G (for future ratio-Unlocked) both positions (enabled and disabled), Optional RAID_JP 1-2 ATA100 (Default), ADV_EN 1-2a` ADV Auto setting (Default). Power switch hooked up either way. Using only 1 HDD, 1 FDD with and without video card (without any other cards). Ive used my Enlight 300W PS and a 250W PS. Any other suggestions besides a new PS. If you have used this board what PS are you using?

Thanks

Unfortunately the FIRST suggestion I would have (and that I gave) would be a better PS. I don't have to have that board, nor do I have the same case at the moment. That PS is just not very good. Period. Could I swear on a Bible right now that it is definately the root of your problem; NO. No one could. That is the nature of this business.
You were not clear as to whether or not you tried the "bare minimum" components yet. Have you? If you thoroughly disconnect and/or remove the excess components it would go a long way towards helping diagnose this trouble. As to the fact that the PS worked before on your "Epox 8KHA+ and Athlon XP 1900", it is just not a reliable comparison; no matter how "simple" it would seem. Different boards, different requirements. Actually, I'm suprised that it DID work in the other rig. You must be living right. And no, I don't have anything against Enlight. I built a system for my father with the very same case and PS; but it was an Athlon 1.0 GHz cpu and I knew the limitations.
Ive used my Enlight 300W PS and a 250W PS.
But have you tried a 350 + watt PS?? Again, it may not be the answer, but we are trying to narrow things down and need all the "tools" you can get. Did you try the board outside of the case as Shagg suggested? That is always a good start.

Yes I did as stated in my last reply use only the bare minumum....HDD FDD and Video.

I did use the board outside of the case and still no luck.

Im 99% sure its the PS but I dont like to rule anything out without trying.

And that is a wise choice! I didn't mean to question your previous post, but the "1 HDD, 1 FDD with and without video card" was kinda buried in the entire post and I wanted to be sure. I also did a bit of checking since my last reply and could not find any negative remarks about this particular board that dealt with any boot up problems. Drop back ten and punt..... recheck connections, CPU installations, etc, etc; from the very beginning. If it still will not boot with bare components then most likely it is the PS.
There's always the outside chance it would be the MB itself but you would have different behavior if it was.
