3.- International club tournaments ( Champions league in europe , libertadores cup in America )
4.- Local league championships (each country has its own)
5.- Confederations cup
5.- Olympics soccer

I know that it "thechnically it still a tournament" and its great to win it , but its a relative 'young' cup and no big deal is given to it pretty much anywhere.

You're mixing up the national and club tournaments, which I think are different enough that they should be separate lists.

That said, I agree that the Confederations cup isn't really a big deal for almost anyone. But I can't argue with some good matches in the summer when there isn't much going on in the soccer world!

Conf cup isn't a big deal until your country is involved I guess. I bet Spain is going to be a mess if they lose tonight.

If you thought some of the bigger teams participating would not take the competition seriously then think again - these squads are at virtually full strength.

The only big names missing are Brazil's Ronaldinho and Spain's Andres Iniesta, the former dropped by coach Dunga and the latter missing through an injury he aggravated during the Champions League final.

But the cast list is still mighty impressive: Kaka, Robinho, Luis Fabiano, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo, Luca Toni - not to mention Spanish sensations Iker Casillas, Xavi, Cesc Fabregas, David Villa, Fernando Torres et al.

Italy's World Cup winning-coach Marcello Lippi and Spain boss Vicente del Bosque both have their sights set on lifting the trophy in Johannesburg in a little over two weeks' time.

"The Confederations Cup will be an important test for us," said Lippi. "I want us to go all the way and I also want to recreate a team spirit similar to that of the World Cup."

Del Bosque added: "All the teams have their best squad. We are going with the squad which we feel is the best and are obligated to enhance the prestige of this cup."

The confederations cup is a pretty big deal this time around since they started having the tournament every 4 years instead of every 2. Because of this teams are starting to take the tournament much more seriously...and I suspect we won't see anymore dropouts. Having 3 of the top 5 teams involved is a pretty huge deal.

As for whoever made the comment about Italy giving up...Italy has been a joke for years. Their world cup run was lucky IMO...France would have won it all if it wasn't for the infamous headbutt. On top of that they've been terrible ever since the '06 finals.

I was going to say the same thing about their World Cup win and decided to keep my mouth shut cause you know ATOTers... I mean it is very hard to take away from them winning the cup... but man I was not impressed with their run to say the least. BUT they won it so they are the *best* for now, and that's how it goes.

I agree with you 100%

Great victory for the USA!

The Latin announcers were calling it USA's greatest victory beating the #1 FIFA ranked team in the world.......

......"Not a defeat, but an assasination.."

LOL.

wow impressive. I know nothing about soccer, except that Spain are the best team in the world and haven't lost in like two years. To beat them is a great achievment.
