Well, usually a desert. Yeah there are a few savory dishes also called puddings. But I guess the folks who speak the language know the difference.

I meant the archaic sense of the word, but I was unclear. There were savory puddings, but the point I wanted to make is that it wasn't always (or maybe ever) pudding the way we thing of it, i.e. chocolate pudding and vanilla pudding. They could be more like cakes.
